Porn of the Soul

An individual is born. He is breastfed. His focus falls upon his mother and upon himself.
This person grows up: he feeds himself (i.e. he swallows food, he doesn’t savour it); he covers his flesh with cloth; he makes friends; he falls in love or not; he forms family or not; he works or not; he professes a religion or not; he believes in something or not; he builds something or not; he leaves a legacy or not; he does charity or not...he dies.

A priori, it seems like this being did what humans are supposed to do: he was born; he grew older, lived and passed away.
However, to think and believe that we incarnate in this world solely to have fun, to observe life, to simply breathe, to experience things and just be there is too simplistic and pornographic.
Souls incarnate in order to ask the right questions in everything they do.

I am born: why? What am I here for exactly? Who am I? Who sent me here?
I eat and drink: what does it taste like? Should I be grateful for it or not?
I get dressed: what is the purpose of wearing x or y piece of clothing?
I work: do I love what I do? Am I competent? Am I satisfied?
I make friends: are they really friends or acquaintances? Do I know them? Do I need them? Are they a reflection of myself?
I find love: is it really love or is it affection out of convenience?
I marry: why? Because I want to or because society says I must?
I have kids: why? Is it out of obligation or because they represent an extension of my love?
I make charity: with what purpose? Obligation, status quo, fame, need for/to help?
I believe in God: why? Is it because you were told to or because you know?
I don’t believe in God: why? Is it because you were told to, because you’re disappointed or because you don’t want to bother?
I get old: what lessons were learned? Have I evolved? What would I’ve done differently?
I die: I surfed through life. I didn’t think, I didn’t analyse; I didn’t bother cause all I wanted was to be happy; to live without thinking much (too painful). But was I really happy, was I really a human, humane?

Spending an entire existence without confronting ourselves with the proper questions and without answering them is reducing us to a degree of MacSoul.
Leading a junk-life is trashy, vulgar...Porn of the Soul.

  1. An eye-opener Max...:)

I only realized now, the BIG question of my existence...i thought I am alive because God planned it all..I also am asking myself why I am here and what is my mission on earth...

But this post of yours gave me deeper realization of my true existence!

Thanks for sharing Max, worth contemplating and maybe, would make one's existence more meaningful after reading this!

    Good morning... :)

  2. Coming to you LIVE from Barcelona Spain...

My dear Max it would have been nice if you had touched upon large serious important topics LOL LOL

Since you provide a plethora of such topics here I shall concentrate upon the heart of the matter (skipping your hinting at reincarnation so as not to be distracted)...why are we born, what is the meaning of human life?

The meaning of life is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. Thus the Westminster Confession distils Scripture to this core teaching.

This then promulgates the following question, how do we glorify God and enjoy Him forever?

    What thinks you?

  3. I REALLY like some of the questions you wrote here he he...Sometimes when society's voice becomes SO loud, you really need to think through whether you do something just because society "tells you to" or because you really want it or because of something else.

  4. MAX, I agree wholeheartedly that without mindfulness, we will have as much purpose and direction as a leaf drifting on the autumn wind.

One of my favorite authors is Krishnamurti, who advises against the need for being constantly entertained, because it is inimical to our mind and soul.

Critical thinking is SO important, as is the ability to know when one of our cohorts is thinking or behaving out of sheer stubborn reactiveness. And with our own incisive thought process, which is sometimes painful (as you point out) we can rise above the slings and arrows of less thinking souls and ride life's bumps with more grace and self-awareness.

I miss you and thank you belatedly for your kind words on my blog. We all need to treat each other with kindness, as we are each feeling our way along the corridors of life. And I do so appreciate YOU!

  5. Hi Max,

I love "MasSoul!" Imagine if they sold them?

I was having this conversation with someone recently. It's not enough that we were placed in this world, we have to find our way before we are over and out.

How can we define our life if we can't question it. Living each day in gratitude helps us discover the answers we need. How tragic the life that doesn't seek.

    I've missed you my friend.

    Happy Cheers!

  7. See Max the problem is that we are too intelligent to create all these things to do, lol, sometimes would be nice to just float in the clouds and do nothing. But no we have to move one, learn, work, get married, have children (oh very nice thing to do, lol). Funny sometimes I tell my husband, I think I did it all, lol, and its time to go.

Max your way of thinking and dissection of life is getting better and better. You ask interesting questions, that makes me enjoy more what's important in this life... Max as always outstanding post! Girl hope all is well otherwise, I will drop you some words in the mail later. Anna :)
