The Vaticinators

Isha was called to the High Priestess’ chambers. As she walked through the long corridors the same thought kept playing in her mind “I’m going to be expelled! I should’ve kept my mouth shut!”

Once she reaches the High Chambers, the door opens even before she could knock on it «Enter, Isha!» a deep voice orders from inside; the young initiate enters the huge dim room and when she looks at her right, there she is: the High Priestess standing (a tall, slender, black haired, blue eyed woman with snow white complexion, clad in black) sided by her personal assistant (a petite, slim, brown haired, brown eyed woman with a waxy complexion, also clad in black)!

- Constance informed me about your latest verbal manifesto, Isha! Apparently you do not agree with the way we keep things organised around here!
- Oh, no…please, it is not that! I do agree things are perfectly planned…[“She is a natural diplomat! She disagrees yet she begins by agreeing!” Constance tells Gillian, the High Priestess, telepathically “I know! Isn’t it amazing?”]…however some adjustments ought to be made…in my humble opinion!

The two women look at each other; Gillian speaks:
- We suggest that you prepare a report letting us know what sort of changes should be implemented; and we can assure you that your suggestions shall be well taken into consideration!
The initiate smiles broadly,
- So, I am not going to be sent home?
Constance replies,
- We value self-expression, child! Now, leave us!

Isha exits the room and the two women start laughing:

- Ah, she reminds me of you, Constance…when you were her age. You always had something to say.
- Why, Gill…I always thought you weren’t even listening! Nothing I’d say seemed to affect you…[sighing]…I was young…
- [chuckling] I know…you know it was my job to conceal my being affected…besides I had to teach you how to be patient and to abandon your emotions. Now look at you: you’re an excellent Priestess!
Constance smiles at her best and then continues organising the High Priestess’ day.

«This is such a great opportunity! I still can’t believe that Lady Gillian is actually willing to listen to my ideas…I…[suddenly, Isha senses that she’s being watched]…who’s there? [she closes her eyes and perceives a male energy] reveal yourself, sir!» from behind a tree comes out an extremely handsome young man; Isha contemplates this copy of a Greek god from head to toe: tall, red hair, bright eyes, athletic body, a face worthy of being idolised and an exciting sense of style.

- I’ve been observing you from afar for quite some time! And by the way, I’m Erwin!
- So, you’re a confessed stalker; how peachy! I’m Isha…but you probably knew that!» he smirks, she finds him a smug.
- I heard you challenged my grandma Gillian! You’re spunky…Hmmm... you remind me of my mother! She also had the habit of approaching my grandma with new ideas [and he laughs by himself]…

Isha gets scared now, an unknown feeling is erupting inside; her heart throbs, she realises that she’s blushing, she closes her eyes and foresees this man (in front of her) waking up next to her…

- What is this? (she asks out loud)
- I am not laughing at you, if that’s what you are asking! - replies Erwin, she blushes even more.
- I’m sorry…it’s not that! - and lowers her head; the young man tries to comfort her,
- I know what you saw! It’s ok; my mother told me about it, and my granny approves of it…that is why I have been observing you from a distance [he smiles, she frowns]!

Next day…
Isha sits on a bench, in the middle of the idyllic garden, thinking to herself “Is this why the High Priestess did not send me home? Is this why she is so receptive to my ideas? She wants me to marry her grandchild…but why?”

Indeed, why?

  1. MAX:

You are a rare, gifted writer. I am always amazed buy the creativity of your imagination. The depth you import to your characters, and the thoughts you place into their minds produces in the mind of the reader a true depiction of living breathing human beings in every respect. I felt a certain degree of communion with Isha as she asked herself, "Why?"

    With great respect.

    Happy trails.

  2. Hi Max,
    Happy Maxday.
Great photo. We finally get to see your wedding gown. Beautiful darling.

    As Rupaul would say,
    "You better work (cover girl)/
work it girl (give a twirl)/
do your thing on the runway..."

I think Isha should ask herself, why do I keep saying things that rile others? Is it because I am not like them? Is it because I embrace my own ideals? Is it because I am on the wrong path? She must contemplate her path and the method in which she is traveling.

Perhaps her life is causing her too much stress. She can't relax, play or entertain the young Greek stud like she wants too. The first thing she has to do is ask Erwin to change his name to Aristotle (much better on the ears) and dye his hair ash blond (much better on the eyes) and......wait she can't change him. That's the trap of the lower world. We can't change anyone, only ourselves. She must accept him, name, hair color and all.

“She is a natural diplomat! She disagrees yet she begins by agreeing!”

She could work as a politician then, especially if she can communicate telepathically. Imagine what she could do?

I find it interesting that when people say they value self-expression that they ridicule it in the same breath. If we could only be as free as people perceive us to be.

"I know…you know it was my job to conceal my being affected…besides I had to teach you how to be patient and to abandon your emotions. Now look at you: you’re an excellent Priestess!"

Maybe Condolezza Rice is a High Priestess? She has abandoned all emotion. I don't think we ever abandon emotion, we just let it live in a quieter place. (or a botle of Botox)

We have to be careful not to confuse emotion with passion. Passion comes form the Soul. Emotion comes from the reactive mind.

"Isha gets scared now, an unknown feeling is erupting inside; her heart throbs, she realises that she’s blushing."

It's nice to know that she can still blush and get excited from being alive.

“Is this why the High Priestess did not send me home? Is this why she is so receptive to my ideas? She wants me to marry her grandchild…but why?”

Why not, if she sees Isha as a marvelous catch. Beautiful, witty, charming, intelligent, charismatic, etc. She only wants the best for her grandchild, but not even an High Priestess can manipulate what God has planned. Isha shouldn't think too much about it. She should just think of her wedding gown.

(She gets lost in thought as she sees herself on the runway of love.)

    "...work, turn to the left
work, now turn to the right
    work, sashay shante..."

    Rupaul Cheers!

  4. Max, this is super, I love how you can transport us away to a different land and time.

It has all the stuff I love, mysticism, telepathy and a High Priestess. You make the characters so different yet so real, I love that they laugh and use words like peachy, lol.

Now, I wonder what Isha saw, and more importantly what she said, will she and Erwin become a couple? Excellent max.

  5. Hello Swu! :D

"You are a rare, gifted writer." - thank you so much, my friend *bowing*!

"I am always amazed buy the creativity of your imagination. The depth you import to your characters, and the thoughts you place into their minds produces in the mind of the reader a true depiction of living breathing human beings in every respect." - thanks :D! Ah yes, I do try to give my characters as much life as possible; and where there is life (to me, at least) there is depth...there must be!

"I felt a certain degree of communion with Isha as she asked herself, "Why?"" - I am so glad that you could feel connected with Isha...let's see what the answer to her question is...

"With great respect. Happy trails." - *bowing* thank you!

Swu, I thank you for your lovely comment; and I am grateful for your ability to grasp the depth of what seems to be a simple short story :D!

  6. Hello Alexys! :D

"Happy Maxday." - Happy Maxday, darling ;D!

"Great photo. We finally get to see your wedding gown. Beautiful darling." - I love this image! LOL LOL it is an interesting gown, but hardly my wedding dress...

"As Rupaul would say, "You better work (cover girl)/work it girl (give a twirl)/do your thing on the runway..."" - LOL Rupaul...is he/she still around?

"I think Isha should ask herself, why do I keep saying things that rile others? Is it because I am not like them? Is it because I embrace my own ideals? Is it because I am on the wrong path? She must contemplate her path and the method in which she is traveling." - poor Isha...she is young and has an impetuous nature. But you are right, she must learn from early age how to question her own behaviour and life (before questioning the behaviour of others)...

"Perhaps her life is causing her too much stress. She can't relax, play or entertain the young Greek stud like she wants too." - LOL LOL LOL...not stress, but perhaps anxiety...she still has a hard time dealing with her gift, her vision, perhaps. She can relax, and play with the young Greek stud but first she needs to let her anxiety go...just go with the flow, relax...

"The first thing she has to do is ask Erwin to change his name to Aristotle (much better on the ears) and dye his hair ash blond (much better on the eyes) and......wait she can't change him. That's the trap of the lower world. We can't change anyone, only ourselves. She must accept him, name, hair color and all." - oh no...Erwin is a fine Welsh name that means fair, beautiful...his mom knew what she was doing when she named him. LOL LOL "blond (much better on the eyes)" LOL *nodding*. I don't think Isha thought of changing the young man...she is too scared of her feelings for now, plus she is too focused on Gillian too.

"She could work as a politician then, especially if she can communicate telepathically. Imagine what she could do?" - LOL darling, she doesn't communicate telepathically (that is not her gift); Gillian and Constance do. But you are right; she could work as a politician too.

"I find it interesting that when people say they value self-expression that they ridicule it in the same breath. If we could only be as free as people perceive us to be." - I understand what you are saying, dear...

"Maybe Condolezza Rice is a High Priestess? She has abandoned all emotion." - ROFL....Condolezza Rice is an intelligent women, no doubt; but I don't think she could ever be a High Priestess lol...

"I don't think we ever abandon emotion, we just let it live in a quieter place. (or a botle of Botox)" - we never abandon feelings; yet our emotions...yes, we can abandon them. You see, feelings are never an enemy (au contraire, they can be quite an ally), on the other hand emotions blur one's mind (thus becoming an enemy, opposition to our intents), preventing him from thinking straight...

"We have to be careful not to confuse emotion with passion." - absolutely. But passion come easily turn into emotion when let run wild.

"It's nice to know that she can still blush and get excited from being alive." - LOL poor Isha...you do not like her?

"She only wants the best for her grandchild, but not even an High Priestess can manipulate what God has planned." - but how do we know that she isn't implementing God's plan?

"Isha shouldn't think too much about it. She should just think of her wedding gown." - LOL so you agree that it is her fate to marry Erwin?

"(She gets lost in thought as she sees herself on the runway of love.)" - beautiful!

"...work, turn to the left/ work, now turn to the right/ work, sashay shante..." - LOL great final!

Darling, thanks for this entertaining comment! It was a delight reading it...only you! :D

    Amused Cheers

"Now, I wonder what Isha saw, and more importantly what she said, will she and Erwin become a couple? Excellent max." - we will have these answers in the next episode: stay tuned! Thanks, Bob :D!

  9. Hi Max,
"...it is an interesting gown, but hardly my wedding dress..."

I know your gown is gorgeous my dear.

    "Rupaul...is he/she still around?"

I don't know. Maybe he is still working the runway - at the airport!

"I don't think Isha thought of changing the young man...she is too scared of her feelings for now, plus she is too focused on Gillian too."

I know. She is still coming into her own person like the caterpillar before it becomes the butterfly.

"...we never abandon feelings; yet our emotions...yes, we can abandon them. You see, feelings are never an enemy (au contraire, they can be quite an ally), on the other hand emotions blur one's mind (thus becoming an enemy, opposition to our intents), preventing him from thinking straight..."

    Well said. Bravo!

    "Isha...you do not like her?"

Oh no darling I love her. She is discovering her true self and learning how to confront her feelings and her destiny. That is beautiful.

"...but how do we know that she isn't implementing God's plan?"

We don't know. That is a call none of us can make. We can only hope that we are in alignment with our kismet.

"...so you agree that it is her fate to marry Erwin?"

I am not sure that he is the right one yet. He has to sweep her off of her feet first. A woman likes to be romanced. He has to dine her with love and serve grapes to her while he recites Shakespeare.

    Romance Cheers

  10. Hi Alexys,

"I know your gown is gorgeous my dear." - oh yeah :D!

"I don't know. Maybe he is still working the runway - at the airport!" - LOL LOL LOL that was a good one LOL LOL!

"I know. She is still coming into her own person like the caterpillar before it becomes the butterfly." - excellent analogy! That is precisely it, darling!

"Well said. Bravo!" - thank you *bowing*!

"Oh no darling I love her. She is discovering her true self and learning how to confront her feelings and her destiny. That is beautiful." - you are extremely generous, darling A! One of the things I love about you!

"We can only hope that we are in alignment with our kismet." - absolutely! But sometimes it is a hard thing to do...yet it must be done!

"I am not sure that he is the right one yet. He has to sweep her off of her feet first. A woman likes to be romanced. He has to dine her with love and serve grapes to her while he recites Shakespeare." - LOL that is true: women love being romanced! Oh my...I loved that "dine her with love and serve grapes" while reciting Shakespeare, now this is the proper way to romace me LOL! I can't say about other women, but it would work for me LOL! Let's see if Erwin will be smart enough to romance her...cause not all man know how to do that *nodding*!

    Courtship Cheers

  11. I admire your ability to bring to light & narrate unique real life situations so wonderfully...they all make us think & wonder & feel these things are so common in this world & these incidents are not unique or stray when it happens to us...the world is just like this...we seldom know who is watching behind us & more importantly its realise other peoples motives for all their actions...when you are liked by someone you are then forgiven of all your mistakes & that's how it goes....lovely reading!

  12. Hey Kalyan! :D

"I admire your ability to bring to light & narrate unique real life situations so wonderfully" - oh thank you so much, my friend *bowing*! I feel honoured :D!

"...they all make us think & wonder & feel these things are so common in this world & these incidents are not unique or stray when it happens to us...the world is just like this" - they reflect what I observe in life...and you are right; the world of feelings and sentiments is just like this (no matter our cultural, religious, background).

"...we seldom know who is watching behind us & more importantly its realise other peoples motives for all their actions...when you are liked by someone you are then forgiven of all your mistakes & that's how it goes." - love is a great pardoner, it's true! Motives are so hard to detect, Kalyan...one has to be really attentive and focused, and not everyone is willing to do it (they prioritise other things)!

My dear friend, thank you so much for these fantastic analysis and views *bowing*! It is a pleasure to interact with you!

  13. Hi! The first thing that came to mind were the words conniving and manipulative. I also sense that Isha, who's no fool, is starting to wonder if Erwin is a ploy to entrap her in some sinister web being set by the grandmother.

I'm making an assumption here, but I think Erwin is an airhead who is quite happy to go along with this for the chance of earthly pleasures.

Will the two hitch up? Not on your Nelly. Isha has a mind of her own and plans of her own.

    Take Care,

"Will the two hitch up? Not on your Nelly. Isha has a mind of her own and plans of her own." - I am not sure about this one, cause sometimes women who display a mind of their own fall for the oddest things...go figure!

  22. Hello Maximus!

An interesting stroll down a fantasy lane…I am more one for Sci-fi but I do love Tolkien.

Interesting title and interesting character interaction. It can be very challenging to write telepathic “conversations” but you pulled it off very nicely and with aplomb…

    I love the line:
“So, you’re a confessed stalker; how peachy”

ROFL Not quite what you would expect…

Ok let me for a moment move this to a corporate meeting…the story with some adaptations fits….government meeting…it does not fit she would be told to shut up and mind her own business….

Why does she want the marriage to happen….match maker….it is all part of the genetic manipulations of segments of the gene pool by the sisterhood to create the one who can be in all places and can see what they cannot see so as to dominate the Empire….

"An expression of gratitude to you for your obliging interactions at our blog>>most helpful." - you are most welcome!

"I am unfamiliar with species on SOL 3 that have telepathy. It appears from the imagery that you are describing humans is this so?" - yes, I am describing humans; as a few of them do have telepathic skills.

"The female in the image seems vaguely familiar to me>>>Is she a Cerulean Tussah merchant from Diaphanous Cerulean 6?" - Not that I am aware of...I think she is fully human.

">>>Is it common? Do you have telepathy? Are you from SOL 3? Could you introduce me to these persons?" - no, it is not common. Oh, I wish! I am from earth, yes. Darling, they are fictional characters...but if they were real, I'd be more than glad to introduce them to you :)!
