Who are we?

I invite you to join me in a voyage to the “Beyond-flesh”. Who are we in sooth?

Close your eyes! Picture yourself nude...you are depleted of clothing, shoes, accessories; everything around you just goes away...no TV, no computer, no precious books, no Internet, nothing. And you ask yourself: then, what is there left? You.

Your bare existence, your exposed flesh, body hairs; your imperfect yet perfect body...your protective shell. Take everything off: take your hair, eyebrows, lashes, pubic hair and other types of hair off; take your eyes, ears, nose, lips off; take your skin off...undress yourself. Now you ask: without these, what am I? You.

It’s amazing how the human body works. I look at you, you behold me, and we both realise the amount of body fat a shell can have; but we also learn the amount of muscles a body has; the vessels; the veins, the blood running through them...look at that heart beating: gorgeous. A head without skin is not so pleasant to the eye, however the brain is spectacular...let’s unpack our body, take it all out. Who are you? Your Self.

At this moment you realise that despite being destitute of all the things that you thought and believed to be you; you still Are: you still see, think, communicate (although in a whole different level).

For the process to be complete you need to cleanse your tool of thought: erase your fears, your traumas, your frights; delete your perversions, obsessions, paranoia; obliterate your rage, grudge and jealousy. Allow yourself to be bathed by the Divine Light and scented by Love...

See the truth: who are we? We are souls. We were all created by the same Divine Stylist...we are all the same...no race, no religion, no social status, no gender...we are souls.

Now, if our soul knows that we are all the same; why is it so hard for us, human beings, to transpose this knowledge to our daily life? How come we find it easier to yield to ignorance?

"This is beautiful, Max." - why, thank you, gorgeous *bowing*!

"THANKS for taking me to this journey and for reminding me about cleansing our tools of thoughts. I LOVE that paragraph so much! :-))))" - you are most welcome and I am so glad that you loved it :D!!! You have just made my day!!

  3. Great post Max! You are so right. Who we are has much more to do with the inside than the outside. We are eternal beings, presently in a mortal existence. But we are much more than this body. I had this thought brought home to me the other day. At the same time, I think that we under appreciate this marvelous body that we have. We allow ourselves to be influenced by the world's standards of beauty, and never contemplate what our life before mortality was like without a body.

I wish I could learn to see the soul more clearly than I see the physical body. I think this might be a life time learning experience for me. I hope I learn it before this mortal life is over.

  4. Fascinating post, Max. I think that the labels we put on ourselves are to keep us anchored "on the surface" of our souls, so we don't have to see ourselves too deeply.

Being essentially afraid of ourselves, we hide under our flimsy word-cloaks. But underneath, the soul grows cold and shivers with lack of warmth and nourishment.

Going through motions of religiosity will not necessarily bring us closer to our essential soul-nature. Only observation, prayer, meditation, and open thinking can do that. In my opinion....

  5. I think, the last paragraph is the heart of this post, Max. :-)

I got goosebumps after reading it. Reason being, it was on the same note how my grandfather taught me as a child, the wisdom of true self, as he termed it. I strive hard to live by that wisdom, always trying to get in touch with my bare self, the soul. It's the undiluted fact that could somehow measure true, personal success, which is "defeating the self".

Achievements doesn't necessary means success,:-), or rather, the two doesn't mean the same thing sometimes :-).

Ignorance, is sometimes, an easier choice for others. It could be a part of a bigger purpose, or an end-result of the past or present in a person's life.

Well, life is a work in progress, afterall.:-)

Anyway Max, this is as interesting as ever,:-) topics like this made me love "good conversations". Thanks!:-)

  6. I agree with delirious. I think we're so driven to focus on the external beauty, the world's standard of beauty. But then again on the other hand we're given this idea of "art" so that we can enjoy different types of beauty...without this idea of "art" inside us, everybody will look the same...

ARRGGGHHH...I'm getting confused hi hi hi...bottom line is, sometimes I wonder why this God-given ability to enjoy art forms can be such a double-edged sword in terms as what Delirious said: that we forget that we're not just bodies.

  7. Hey D!

    :D

"Great post Max!" - thank you so much, darling *bowing*!

"Who we are has much more to do with the inside than the outside. We are eternal beings, presently in a mortal existence." - absolutely! I was not sure how LDS members would view this issue; I think I need to hang out more at your other blog ;)!

"At the same time, I think that we under appreciate this marvelous body that we have." - I agree with you! Not only we under appreciate it but we also mistreat it: cigarettes, drugs, alcohol, irresponsible sex, ill sentiments that may lead to diseases etc...

"We allow ourselves to be influenced by the world's standards of beauty, and never contemplate what our life before mortality was like without a body." - I totally hear you on this one! And this is one of the things that make me wonder about humans: how can we be so negligent about our own Self?

"I wish I could learn to see the soul more clearly than I see the physical body. I think this might be a life time learning experience for me. I hope I learn it before this mortal life is over." - I will be crossing fingers for you, darling! I hope you do learn how to see it, eventually; cause I heard it is a marvellous experience :D!

D, thank you so much for this brilliant comment *bowing*! A true Delight! :)

    Cheers

  8. Hey Lynda! :D

    So good to see you!

"Fascinating post, Max." - thank you, my dear *bowing*!

"I think that the labels we put on ourselves are to keep us anchored "on the surface" of our souls, so we don't have to see ourselves too deeply." - I see what you mean! It is like we live in denial of whom we really are...what are we really afraid of: The truth?

"But underneath, the soul grows cold and shivers with lack of warmth and nourishment." - this is beautiful!!

"Going through motions of religiosity will not necessarily bring us closer to our essential soul-nature. Only observation, prayer, meditation, and open thinking can do that. In my opinion..." - and I appreciate your most valuable opinion!! *clap clap clap*...

Lynda, this comment was a true pleasure to read; thank you ever so much *bowing*!

  9. Hi Leofina! :D

"I think, the last paragraph is the heart of this post, Max. :-)" - *bowing* thank you!

"I got goosebumps after reading it. Reason being, it was on the same note how my grandfather taught me as a child, the wisdom of true self, as he termed it." - it sounds like your grandfather was a wise man....you were lucky to receive precious teachings from him :)!

"I strive hard to live by that wisdom, always trying to get in touch with my bare self, the soul. It's the undiluted fact that could somehow measure true, personal success, which is "defeating the self"." - it is important to always get in touch with our essence. I hear you, darling!

"Achievements doesn't necessary means success,:-), or rather, the two doesn't mean the same thing sometimes :-)." - true, they do not mean the same thing; and many times they do not result into the same things either...

"Ignorance, is sometimes, an easier choice for others. It could be a part of a bigger purpose, or an end-result of the past or present in a person's life." - perhaps you are right; ignorance may very well be part of the bigger purpose as a catalyst to knowledge (i.e. we acknowledge ignorance through several levels of thought or even behaviours and, feel compelled or encouraged to seek for knowledge the best way we can)...just a thought...

"Well, life is a work in progress, afterall.:-)" - yes, it is; darling...yes, it is :D!

"Anyway Max, this is as interesting as ever,:-) topics like this made me love "good conversations". Thanks!:-)" - thank you, Leo (may I call you that?) :D! Oh, I love a good conversation myself!!! Don't mention it!!

Leo, thank you so much for this amazing comment; it was a fantastic read *bowing*!

  10. Hey Gorgeous!

    :D

"I agree with delirious. I think we're so driven to focus on the external beauty, the world's standard of beauty." - true...but today, there is some sort of twisted standard of beauty, isn't there?

"But then again on the other hand we're given this idea of "art" so that we can enjoy different types of beauty...without this idea of "art" inside us, everybody will look the same..." - "art" is necessary, no doubt; as to create some sort of difference; but the issue is we focus too much on these artful differences and tend to forget that we are the same underneath...it's interesting.

"ARRGGGHHH...I'm getting confused hi hi hi...bottom line is, sometimes I wonder why this God-given ability to enjoy art forms can be such a double-edged sword in terms as what Delirious said: that we forget that we're not just bodies." - lol no, you are doing great! I think that we seek forms to escape the truth sometimes; looking within would make us realise that our existence, that our fears, our behaviours are senseless. And since we are so used to behave in X or Y way, we are afraid to re-learn new ways of thought, behaviour and living. Change and truth are two things that humans many times feel uncomfortable with...but perhaps one day all will change, right? :)

Amel, superb comment, girl!! Thanks :D!

    Cheers

  11. Hi Max,
I totally missed this one yesterday. Thanks for letting me know.

I must say that not only is this brilliant, but it strips us of everything that we deem important except the only thing that IS important - Soul.

From the depth of my Soul, thank you for hitting it out of the park and giving us back the freedom that so we often think we lose.

I absolutely love the "Divine Stylist."

"I must say that not only is this brilliant, but it strips us of everything that we deem important except the only thing that IS important - Soul." - thank you so much *bowing*! Yes, there is nothing more important than the Soul, and in the end...it is all the remains and lives on!

"From the depth of my Soul, thank you for hitting it out of the park and giving us back the freedom that so we often think we lose." - oooh, that is so kind: thank you for sharing the depth of your Soul :)! And you are extremely welcome, darling; extremely welcome indeed!!

  13. I'm often amazed at how great our body is, no matter its shape/ color/ imperfection etc.

We all should listen to our bodies and learn to know ourselves...

Man, I'm sounding mystic, weird for an atheist like me!:D

  14. I agree with your hopeful comment: Maybe someday all will change he he...at least in heaven it will definitely change, though not sure how much time it takes to do that on earth he he...

And I agree COMPLETELY about the twisted "idealism" of beauty in today's world.

THANKS for making me think and ramble hi hi hi...LOVE it! ;-D

  18. Well done max! that is how we all should think, more on the spiritual side as apposed to the worldly side where we sweat the small stuff.

We are spiritual beings trapped inside a flesh shell, talk about a major conflict, no wonder everything is screwy, lol.

  19. Max,
In a PERFECT existence, one could operate in the "real" world as if the trapping of our 3 dimensional world did not exist. However, our world is far from perfect, we are far from perfect. We are blinded by physical reality.

"Blinded" is the key here. I believe that, like you, that we should, and can, operate in both worlds. What it takes is people like you to remind us that we are so much more than the physical.

    GREAT JOB!!!!

    Beautiful post!!!

I have an idea for another post for you.....
"What is the purpose of the physical world?"

"In a PERFECT existence, one could operate in the "real" world as if the trapping of our 3 dimensional world did not exist. However, our world is far from perfect, we are far from perfect. We are blinded by physical reality." - excellent words!!! I agree with you: we are definitely far from being perfect, since matter prevents us from attaining any sort of perfection. We may even think about it (perfection, and reaching it), we may try to be it in all honesty; however the flesh, needs, desires, wantings, thirst, hunger for power, status and etc will always get in the way...

""Blinded" is the key here." - yes!

"I believe that, like you, that we should, and can, operate in both worlds. What it takes is people like you to remind us that we are so much more than the physical." - yes, we can. Ooh, Mel, thank you *bowing*! And let me tell you that in your own style you do remind us that we are much more than this... :).

"GREAT JOB!!!! Beautiful post!!!" - thank you ever so much *bowing*!

"I have an idea for another post for you....."What is the purpose of the physical world?"" - brilliant idea!! I shall write about this, Mel! We have an appointment for next Tuesday :D! Thanks!!!

And thank you for your great, brilliant, contribution to this post (and the next one lol) :D!

  24. A beautiful post,

Why do we forget/deny our essential nature?

    What a wonderful question...

I dont know... but I think we need to do what you have done here...and continue to remind ourselves, over and over again...of the reality of who we really are.

    Love and light,
