The End

This is the sequel of The Rendez-vous

On her flight to London, Isabella thought of the day Tomaso Buonfiglio proposed to her (“Isabella, amore mio, will you be my wife for all times?”) «What a bastard! And to think that I actually believed in him...Ah, Tomaso, Tomaso...» A guy sitting next to her puts down his newspaper, folds it, looks out the window; then looks at her and nicely asks «Travelling alone?»...she gives him a cold look and replies «No...My shadow is with me!» the poor guy’s smile fades away as he unfolds his newspaper and proceeds with his reading.

Christian is all excited with the perspective of seeing his cousin; so he and Luca (the butler) make sure that everything is at Isabella’s taste «She is very peculiar, Luca!» «Oh, I remember well, sir!»....Elaine looks at them and laughs «You two look like women organising the arrival of the prodigal son!» Christian replies «In a way she is the prodigal son...Ah, love, make sure Sophia doesn’t smoke in the house. Isa hates it!» Elaine nods positively and leaves the room.

Paul asks his wife «Sophia, what did you think of Isabella? Is she stunning?» Sophia (who is leaning over the window to have a smoke) replies «Why? Are you dumping Julie?» Paul who is battling his way into tying a Windsor knot, says «What? I can’t hear you!» Sophia throws her mini-cigar away, shuts the window, approaches her husband, slaps his hands (for him to drop the tie) and while tying the Windsor knot herself answers «Isabella is a beautiful woman, who eats men like you for breakfast, Paul...darling!» and smirks at him. Paul frowns, thanks her for fixing the tie and in silence brushes his hair...

Elaine calls Gillian to inform her that they’ll be at her property on Monday, for first they’d like to discuss a few things with their new guest. The High Priestess agrees.

The following day...
Isabella stands, before an East facing window, brushing her lips against a glass of cognac. From the living-room door Paul observes her attentively. Upon seeing his reflection on the window glass, she turns around slowly «You must be Saul! I’ve heard so much about you!» she dryly says...Paul enters the room, walks towards the bar, serves himself the same Isabella is having and while raising his glass to her says «I heard Zion is as sound as ever!»...she presents a faint smile while replying «As always!»...the others join them...

The Meeting...
«Elaine, the only way to keep the formula of the preservative from falling into the wrong hands is to put it in the market through our cousins in Germany. Buonfiglio won’t be expecting it; besides it is about time the world benefits from a natural preservative...» Isabella addresses her small audience «I’ll meet Buonfiglio, and this time he won’t come out alive. Ah, Sophia, you’ll have to draw the twins here...I know that Giuliana likes you [she gazes the ceiling]...I will finish them off as well...it will be a clean job, no mess at all [she makes a gesture as if wiping her fingers]...» Paul looks at her in utter admiration...

Two months later...
«I am so sorry for your loss!»...«He was so young! But now he’s in a better place!»...a sobbing Isabella replies as people present their condolences «We had agreed to get back together and try again...and now, he is dead! Why, G-d? Why? [sobbing]?» people comforted this woman who was clearly in deep bereavement...

Everybody gets in their respective vehicles...Isabella (the last to leave) walks towards an arctic silver metallic Porsche Cayman S, and gets in «Spectacular performance, cousin! Even I believed it to be true!» she muffles her laughter «Christian, ho terminato il mio compito qui...allora [1]...I am going back to Sicilia

  2. Hi Max,
I like all of the character's names.

"A guy sat next to her puts down his newspaper, folds it, looks out the window; then looks at her and nicely asks «Travelling alone?»...she gives him a cold look and replies «No...My shadow is with me!»"

    Shadow. ROFL.

"Isabella is a beautiful woman, who eats men like you for breakfast..."

At least she's eating more than salad. If a meat eater is called a carnivore then what is a maneater called - Madonna (the singer.)

"Elaine, the only way to keep the formula of the preservative from falling into the wrong hands is to put it in the market through our cousins in Germany. Buonfiglio won’t be expecting it; besides it is about time the world benefits from a natural preservative..."

What is the formula made of?

"I am so sorry for your loss!»...«He was so young! But now he’s in a better place!»...a sobbing Isabella replies as people present their condolences «We had agreed to get back together and try again...and now, he is dead! Why, God? Why? [sobbing]?» people comforted this woman who was clearly in deep bereavement..."

This sounds like a scene from one of those novellas where the women cry, yet their mascara is in tact.

"Everybody gets in their respective vehicles...Isabella (the last to leave) walks towards an arctic silver metallic Porsche Cayman S, and gets in «Spectacular performance, cousin! Even I believed it to be true!» she muffles her laughter «Christian,ho terminato il mio compito qui...allora [1]...I am going back to Sicilia!"

    So Isabella is mafioso? Brilliant.

A nice end to a continuing saga.

    Finale Cheers.

  4. Hi Alexys!

"I like all of the character's names."

Believe it or not, I like it too LOL...

    "Shadow. ROFL."

ROFL...ROFL...did you know that I have used this line? LOL...it works wonders!

"At least she's eating more than salad. If a meat eater is called a carnivore then what is a maneater called - Madonna (the singer.)"

ROFL...ROFL....ROFL....*hand on stomach*...Oooohhhhh LOL LOL...you kill me! But it's true, eating salads only is so demodé!
LOL LOL LOL oh, a maneater is called Madonna? LOL I didn't know that LOL LOL LOL *nodding*!

"What is the formula made of?"

Saffron essence mainly. Saffron is a natural preservative per se...that is why Indians use it when cooking (so that it preserves food for many days).

"This sounds like a scene from one of those novellas where the women cry, yet their mascara is in tact."

LOL LOL I hear you....but girl, these modern mascaras remain intact even if you go dive in the sea *nodding*! Even with makeup remover...they are difficult to remove *nodding*.

    "So Isabella is mafioso? Brilliant."

ROFL...she could be a mafiosa...yes. Thank you, darling!

"A nice end to a continuing saga."

Thanks! But this is the end for this entangled web. 2009 is reserved for other things now...

Lady A, thank you for this hilarious comment (I laughed till I dropped) :D!

    Grande Finale Cheers

  5. Hi Max,

"But this is the end for this entangled web. 2009 is reserved for other things now."

And now the other shoe drops. (meaning there is more to the story)

    "(I laughed till I dropped)"

Now Max, I don't want you to hurt yourself dear. I know you are at a high place so when you drop, it could be pretty painful. I hope you were wearing padding, (not shoulder pads though - it's too Joan Collins-ish) or perhaps you had a parachute?

    Soft Landing Cheers

So sweet...I didn't hurt myself, don't worry :)! LOL LOL LOL LOL it doesn't seem so high from where I'm standing LOL *nodding*!
Shoulder pads!? LOL do people still wear those LOL *nodding*? Joan Collins...OMG...I used to read her books when I was 13, now whenever I try to read her work I get dizzy...
Anyway, there was a a huge cushion below my chair to soften my landing...so no bone was broken LOL!

    Joan Collins-never again-Cheers

  7. Hi Max,
I am so happy that you didn't get hurt.

You're thinking of Jackie Collins - Joan's sister. Joan was on Dynasty as Alexis Carrington.

Jackie has managed to make a whole career out of rewriting the same book over and over again.

No Jackie Or Joan Collins Cheers.

"You're thinking of Jackie Collins - Joan's sister. Joan was on Dynasty as Alexis Carrington."

lol yes, I realised that after I sent you the message (I even went to check on my book-case)...why on earth do these sisters have their name starting with the same letter? *nodding*...
Dinasty...I used to watch it as a little girl...heavens, I was corny!

"Jackie has managed to make a whole career out of rewriting the same book over and over again."

LOL You are so right! I have two of her books and...they seem the same to me *nodding*...

Absolutely - No Jackie Or Joan Collins Cheers.

  13. Great ending, but is it? things/people have away of coming back to life, lol. The Recipe/formula/preservative has got me very interested now.

Like all excellent stories they leave more questions then answers, fun to make your own endings though.

Thanks for the fun read max.

  14. Hi Max…

    The End?!! Oh no!!!!

The Prodigal Son is one of my favourite of Jesus parables….it bleeds grace….

I love the Paul-Sophia interaction! LOL Those two…..

Our Province is looking into making flavoured mini-cigars change in how they are handled in the market place as many of them are flavoured in an attempt to entice younger people to smoke them (apparently the chocolate flavoured ones are very popular…) I have found it interesting how you have integrated Sophia’s habits and proclivities into her character…very well done…

The Isabella Saul/Paul interaction is interesting…I’m not quite sure what to make of it…how deeply have you layered it?

“Preservative”…..if this is the End you have to come clean on this…or write a follow up!!!

I am very curious on your intent with combining this story with the image you provided with it….

LOL Wonderfully woven together….what a ride!

I see you intend to move onto other projects in the coming year and eagerly anticipate them….of course you could slot in some extras on this thread along the way… :)

  15. Hey Bob :D!

"Great ending, but is it? things/people have away of coming back to life, lol. The Recipe/formula/preservative has got me very interested now."

Oh yes...it is the ending. LOL true, they do have a way of coming back to life...but not for now LOL!
    Aaah, the formula...

"Like all excellent stories they leave more questions then answers, fun to make your own endings though."

Thank you, Lord of the Astropics *bowing*! Those are my thoughts exactly: leave it to the reader to make its own endings...

"Thanks for the fun read max."

    You are most welcome, Bob!

And thanks for not only your comment, but for following the short-stories from the very beginning :D!

  16. Hi LS!

    "The End?!! Oh no!!!!"

    Oh yes....!

"The Prodigal Son is one of my favourite of Jesus parables….it bleeds grace…."

I am glad you liked it...consider it a gift for you *bowing*!

"I love the Paul-Sophia interaction! LOL Those two….."

LOL those two are terrible...just terrible...*nodding*.

"Our Province is looking into making flavoured mini-cigars change in how they are handled in the market place as many of them are flavoured in an attempt to entice younger people to smoke them (apparently the chocolate flavoured ones are very popular…)"

Oh, they are going to murder the mini-ciggars, eh? Because flavoured ciggars are like mint cigarettes, and flavoured water/tea ...sheer rubbish!

"I have found it interesting how you have integrated Sophia’s habits and proclivities into her character…very well done…"

Thank you, LS *bowing*! I am happy it struck your fancy...

"The Isabella Saul/Paul interaction is interesting…I’m not quite sure what to make of it…how deeply have you layered it?"

It is quite layered...the only thing I can tell you is: they know each other for quite a while...

"“Preservative”…..if this is the End you have to come clean on this…or write a follow up!!!"

LOL LS...no follow ups on MAX, capisci?

"I am very curious on your intent with combining this story with the image you provided with it…."

Well, the three standing figures represent Isabella's participation in the plot: she came (first figure on the right), did her job (the figure in the middle) and left (the figure showing her back, on the left)...
Plus, the garment is nearly transparent meaning that what you see in Isabella is what you get, but it is not quite so...she is far more complex and sophisticated than we think.

"LOL Wonderfully woven together….what a ride!"

    LOL thanks...

"I see you intend to move onto other projects in the coming year and eagerly anticipate them….of course you could slot in some extras on this thread along the way… :)"

LOL you see well! LOL LOL LS, you are so sweet...that's all I can tell you for now lol...

My friend, thank you so much for this amazing comment *bowing*! And thank you for having read every single episode of this "Love & Espionage" saga :D!

    Cheers
