Lusosphere: the community, that exhibits a cultural affinity; consisting of independent countries in which Portuguese is the official language (Portugal, Brazil, Angola, Mozambique, S. Tomé & Principe; Guinea Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Macau, Goa State & East Timor - sometimes Galicia, in Spain, is included because the Galician language is so similar to Portuguese).
Welcome to the ultra-enriched Lusophonic World!
"The Lusosphere" will be a series of monthly articles that will share historical synopses and cultural features of the countries belonging to the Lusosphere. Each post will include a video displaying the influence of the Portuguese culture upon the countries it once colonised; and the influence the former colonies had upon Portugal.
But that's not all! As a bonus, a musical video will be posted, each week, as part of the homage being paid to the Lusosphere!

ReplyDeleteA few years ago, I had no idea Portugal influence could be seen as far as Macao! Even Taiwan, I believed, had a Portuguese settlement... "isla formosa", isn't it? I know I mispelled it somehow.
Anyway, I'm waiting to learn more!

You know what I always remember whenever I come across your name and your blog? Me when I was Ms. Portugal in the UN Day celebration back in 1981. I was 4 then and have a little memory of it now, but the pictures are still in my photo album.

Who would say, eh? Yes, "ilha Formosa" was a Portuguese settlement...Camões even wrote about it!
No, you didn't mispell it...when the Portuguese arrived at Formosa, they used to write "isla" (before it evolved to "ilha"). Did you know that "Formosa" means beautiful?

What a deal. We get to learn AND hear music. Will this project replace what we all know as MAX or will it be an adjunct to MAX?
