Yesterday Today Tomorrow

Yesterday
1820-1910: the Romantic Period.
The minds of men craved for individuality, liberty; more contact with nature; love for their country and the revival of the Middle Ages (since it was an epoch full of adventure and heroic stunts; nations were being built; there were castles, monks and knights in shining armour).
No longer they wanted to think, write and behave for the whole...they sought personal creativity; they defended a personal independence (artistic, political, moral and sentimental); they cultivated the Self; they sought the absolute even though knowing that it was unattainable. They screamed against the tyrants (Kings/Emperors) and reached out to the common people (who, they believed, were the very essence of the nation).
The Romantic mind was led not by reason (like in the neo-classic period) but by passion, sentiment, imagination, religious ideology, absolute truth & perfection; and by God.
The Romantic Hero was rebellious, proud, contemptuous; he defied the society and God Himself.

Today
2000-2010: the Uncertain Period.
The minds of men and women believe to crave for individuality (yet they seek to think, behave and dress alike); liberty (yet they wish to prevent others from being free); more contact with nature (yes, now that they’ve nearly ruined it); love for their country (while destroying it through purposeless wars; humiliation of countrymen; massive corruption; disrespect for the nation’s flag and anthem; anarchic expressions; spitting on people’s freedom to express themselves etc) and the revival of the Barbarian Period (the young and vigorous people succeed the old & decadent society; yet they prove to be uncivilised and savages, thus destroying the highly developed civilisation, giving way to a Neo-Dark Age of chaos and violence).
They still don’t want to think, write and behave for the whole (God forbid that they actually take their heads off the sand and see, think about, beyond their own navel)...they throw personal creativity off the window. Artistic independence = pornography and promiscuity; political independence = criticising the government & working against it, even if it means ruining the country under the flag of freedom of speech; moral independence = lack of moral values; sentimental independence = being a misogynist, a feminist, a manwhore or a tramp. They still cultivate the Self (my house, my car, my 3 cell-phones; myself, myself, myself); they fight against and embrace the absolute & the relative. They scream at tyrants (Premiers/Presidents) and deny the basics to the common people (broken health and education systems, not to mention the housing one).
The Uncertain mind is led not by reason but by needs, consumerism, paranoia, therapy, anti-God ideology, relative perfection and Self worship.
The Uncertain Hero is egotistic, anarchist, proud, contemptuous; he defies society and God Himself.

Tomorrow
2012-2058: The Awareness Period.
Humans use their individuality to work for the common good; they make use of their liberty with responsibility and utter respect; nature is cherished by them and they even find a way of sparing it of their abuse; they love their country; and they create a new era: one of love, respect, justice, solidarity and charity.
They think, write and behave abiding to “Et Pluribus Unum”. Spirituality finally bathes their mind. Reason and Intelligence are optimised; creativity flows naturally; artistic productions reflect the new era. Their emotional relationships are dealt with maturity.
Politics for the first time is conducted by wise leaders, who listen to their counsellors; who serve the people; who do not wish to be worshipped but instead when looking at their followers are enormously proud of Humanity.
In this period there will be a humanisation of society, yet a new form of bigotry will be created: prejudice against ignorance, under all its forms (xenophobia, racism, homophobia, sexism).
The Awareness mind is led by the Creator, reason, thought, analysis, wisdom, respect, compassion, love.

Happy New Year!!

Now, I invite you to check LS’ timeline perspective: Here.

  1. Max,
This sounds more like a summary of the past (very well laid out), the reality of the present (man's duplicitous and hypocritical nature) and a prayer for the future. However, I think that in order for your future scenario to take place, man has to come to the brink of disaster and then make the "RIGHT" choice. It is at that point of no return that man's "TRUE" nature will reveal itself, and I hope to GOD that your scenario is the result of that choice!

    Well done Max.

I'll have to make way over to LS and see what he has to say.

  2. Hello Maximus…

Let me enter your time travel….sci-fi girl….

    Yesterday….

Interesting...your approach is not at all what I was expecting….

Although the Romantic Period did occur at that time it was paralleled by massive infusions of the natural sciences into societies and was partially a response to the “Age of Enlightenment”…

The concept of absolute truth superseded this era as the concept was around before it and is around to this day of course this is understandable as it is Biblical…as God is absolute it is understandable that there is absolute truth…

Many involved in the Romantic Movement were very devout followers of Jesus so I am not sure if it is accurate to designate the driving “character” of that time as being against God…it approached the creation as in collaboration (although Fallen) with God as it was His creation…but looked beyond simple physical parameters of science…

    Today…

LOL LOL The wrath of Max….

Yes we are living in Romans 1, hopefully we will also see Romans 3 and 8…LOL

18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of human beings who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.

21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal human beings and birds and animals and reptiles.
    - - Romans 1:18-23

Human nature continues to be human nature…each person wants to be a king unto themselves…

Perhaps the current bad times will serve as an adequate wake up call…

    Tomorrow…

LOL Wishful thinking! “Humanisation” has been thought the path in the past and proved to be bankrupt! Another “Golden Age” that will eventually despair of its impurities…

The Second Coming is looking better all the time…and getting closer every day…

As there are so many views of the Creator it will take direct intervention by the true One Creator to provide real change….

Fabulous article my friend! Not what I was expecting….There is so much packed into it that I will have to take another look at it to do it any real justice! Sorry for all the Bible quotes the post just plucked them out of me…very provocative production of yours…

    :)

  4. Very well thought out Max. I was just thinking today about how we have changed just in the last 40 years. I was viewing a DVD Christmas gift from my oldest daughter, "When We Left Earth" how just 40 years ago we took on a Challenge, to go to the Moon because of one man's vision, and we did it, after the overthrow of the US government things changed for the worse no one else stepped up to the plate with a vision and be the next one fighting the real powers that be.

To fullfill the tomorrow part of your post we have to totally change the way we think, we are in such a mess, so much corruption and misuse of funds, no vision, so sad.

Lol, I see you started the tomorrow with 2012, I take it you believe as do I that we will be around past 2012.

  6. Hey Mel :D!

"This sounds more like a summary of the past (very well laid out), the reality of the present (man's duplicitous and hypocritical nature) and a prayer for the future."

I wouldn't call it exactly a summary of the past (since the past has had so many different periods), but it summarises what Men have been looking for for ages, and haven't quite attained in its entirety. Let's say that their ambitions at the time were their prayer for the future.
I don't know if our nature is duplicitous and hypocritical...I'd say that we learn these things here on earth in order to survive in this jungle called life.

"However, I think that in order for your future scenario to take place, man has to come to the brink of disaster and then make the "RIGHT" choice."

Don't you think that we are already on the brink of disaster, Mel? Look around the world...it is a serious mess! If I start producing a list of all the disasterous things happening right now...we might go crazy asking ourselves "how low have humans gone?"...*nodding*. We have a precious gift, which is reason, and what are we doing with it?

"It is at that point of no return that man's "TRUE" nature will reveal itself, and I hope to GOD that your scenario is the result of that choice!"

I do pray to God as well, that Man's Nature (its Divine Essence) reveals itself. Amen to that, darling!

    "Well done Max."

    Thank you, Mel *bowing*!

"I'll have to make way over to LS and see what he has to say."

Please do...it is an interesting piece!

Slogbite, thank you so much for your fantastic comment...you made me think even further about this issue :D!

    Cheers

  7. Max,
In stating the "brink of disaster", I mean on a global scale. There are and will always be mini disasters around the globe. What I am talking about is, and I hate to use this word, an Armageddon of sorts, that could effect every living thing on this planet.

  8. Hello Max!

    Congratulations for this awesome post!

Yesterday's people were guided by innocence. Things were harder and yet the path was promising.
Today's people are just like a punk guy: everything has got to be rougher. The finesse of spirit has been replaced by arrogance; the skill of mastering life and patience was replaced by corruption, greed, deceiving personality and nudity of values.
Tomorrow's people are mature for the world is prepared to believe and accept humanisation of the society: reason, intelligence, wisdom, respect, analysis, compassion, love, and God will be appreciated and understood as a whole in a being. Ignorance, under all its forms, will surely be there but before displaying it reason will be more exercised as opposed to petty sentiments...

    Well done!

  9. Hello LSus! :D

"Let me enter your time travel….sci-fi girl…."

LOL yeah, you wish I were LOL!

"Interesting...your approach is not at all what I was expecting…."

Thank you *bowing*! Well, I do know how to surprise my friends, from times to times...

"Although the Romantic Period did occur at that time it was paralleled by massive infusions of the natural sciences into societies and was partially a response to the “Age of Enlightenment”…"

Indeed. Here in Portugal, we had the Generation of the 70's (1870-1879) in which there was a craze about science and everything that was real and subject to proof (we called it the "Naturalismo" period), which was reflected in our literature at the time (Eça de Queirós, Antero de Quental, Sá Carneiro etc)...

"The concept of absolute truth superseded this era as the concept was around before it and is around to this day of course this is understandable as it is Biblical…as God is absolute it is understandable that there is absolute truth…"

LOL I almost felt tempted to go back to this debate...

"Many involved in the Romantic Movement were very devout followers of Jesus so I am not sure if it is accurate to designate the driving “character” of that time as being against God…it approached the creation as in collaboration (although Fallen) with God as it was His creation…but looked beyond simple physical parameters of science…"

When it is said that the Romantic Movement was against God, it is not as if it rejected it (like many do nowadays); it is to show that by this time men began to question the church and the teachings they had received about God. Mind you that in this period the Bourgeoisie chased the church and depleted it from its properties and possessions, all over Europe. Not to mention, that during this period people also turned to Esoteric sciences...they sought for different forms of expressing their spirituality (Eliphas Levi, Helena P. Blavatsky, Pascal Beverly Randolph and such)...

"LOL LOL The wrath of Max…."

    LOL LOL LOL you reckon?

"Yes we are living in Romans 1, hopefully we will also see Romans 3 and 8…LOL"

LOL I respect you Christian analogy...particularly because it is a great one LOL...

"Human nature continues to be human nature…each person wants to be a king unto themselves…"

    I don't wish to be a king.
The problem is people forgot the natural order of society...nowadays (due to successive social revolutions) humans think that they can all rule and lead...which couldn't be farther from the truth. And now...chaos reigns.

"Perhaps the current bad times will serve as an adequate wake up call…"

    I hope so...

"LOL Wishful thinking! “Humanisation” has been thought the path in the past and proved to be bankrupt! Another “Golden Age” that will eventually despair of its impurities…"

LOL you reckon? This is quite cynical of you...are you saying that there is not hope at all for humans, for society?
Humanisation is not bankrupt...it is rather in disconnection with the factors needed in order to its total realisation. As I said, we are living in the midst of chaos, because of the things mentioned in the article...once we set our minds to order...society will be humanised.

"The Second Coming is looking better all the time…and getting closer every day…"

How will the second coming occur? I am just waiting for Christians to officially admit the reincarnation theory...and one day they will (cause if Jesus did, you will too)...

"As there are so many views of the Creator it will take direct intervention by the true One Creator to provide real change…."

What do you mean by "True One Creator"? I didn't know there was a false creator...

"Fabulous article my friend! Not what I was expecting….There is so much packed into it that I will have to take another look at it to do it any real justice! Sorry for all the Bible quotes the post just plucked them out of me…very provocative production of yours… :)"

"Today's people are just like a punk guy: everything has got to be rougher. The finesse of spirit has been replaced by arrogance; the skill of mastering life and patience was replaced by corruption, greed, deceiving personality and nudity of values."

Absolutely!! When you spoke of arrogance (replacing the "finesse de l'esprit") it reminded me that the arrogants of today are the most ignorant ones (even though they firmly believe to be bearing all knowledge)...for an enlightened and intellectual person, because he/she makes use of reason, is never arrogant; but generous.
Ooh, "mastering life"...is such a beautiful expression...that we seem to spit on on every chance we get...to give way to self-pity, victimisation, and unaccountability *nodding*.

"Tomorrow's people are mature for the world is prepared to believe and accept humanisation of the society: reason, intelligence, wisdom, respect, analysis, compassion, love, and God will be appreciated and understood as a whole in a being."

  15. Max, this is a terrific post, very well articulated, and I envision these stages in our evolution very much as you do. And I agree with Slog Bite that we will have to be on the brink, on our knees, nearly reduced to ashes, before we wake up. And even then, there will be those whose immature self-centeredness causes them to prey on all that generates order and the common good.

There is one point that I would like to add. And that is that I would like to see morality based on/motivated by common sense, empathy, "The Golden Rule," etc., more than on religious dogma. For we humans in different cultures and histories and life-conditions will never agree on dogma! And so dogma will perpetually divide us. I give my respect to anyone who believes in and lives according to the belief in God and "The Common Good." And hope for the future of humanity....

  16. Hi Max,

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! And this is a VERY interesting post. However, I'm not sure about the future...for some reason I've been in a very cranky mood lately and thus it leads me to being more of a pessimist than an optimist he he he he...but I SURE do hope for a better future! ;-D

  20. Hi Max. Considering what's happening to our world, especially the war on terrorism and the global financial crisis, distrust of anyone or anything that might resemble a threat, could be sending us back to the isolationist period of the past.

The open door policy where we welcomed all and sundary, strengtened economies and added diverse ways of life to our lives, especially for us downunder, has been seen by some, as ways to spread their evil and love of violence in order to bring others different to them, down.

I would hate to see an isolationist policy take over again, but how are we to protect what our forefathers fought for and died for protecting.

May we all live in peace one day and welcome all and sundary as brothers and sisters, and not as someone to be mistrusted because of their different beliefs, ways and how they're dressed.

Giving it some thought, if we could cut religion out of the equation we might be able to do that.

    All the best for 2009!

    Take Care,
    Peter

    - Good points…as the Reformation cleansed the Church of the Roman Catholic system earlier the Protestant Church also had many false teachers/poor teachers that were unbiblical at the time you are speaking of…there have always been goats mixed in with the sheep…plus wolves in sheep’s clothing…this issue persists to this day for those who are Biblically unauthentic…

    - Well I don’t think humans are the answer….we are no different since the Garden…we live in a Fallen universe, sinful pride rules the day and only the intervention of the Holy Spirit has disabled our propensity towards total destruction to this point…I have no hope in humans but in God I see infinite hope…

"The Second Coming is looking better all the time…and getting closer every day…"

“How will the second coming occur? I am just waiting for Christians to officially admit the reincarnation theory...and one day they will (cause if Jesus did, you will too)...”

    - LOL Still pushing the reincarnation “theory”? Well I can help you my friend you don’t need the “reincarnation theory” as Jesus teaching is resurrection ….LOL “Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment,” – Hebrews 9:27 :) It is resurrection not reincarnation…“and I have the same hope in God as these people themselves have, that there will be a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked.” – Acts 24:15…23 Jesus said to her, "Your brother will rise again."
24 Martha answered, "I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day."
25 Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even though they die; 26 and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?"
27 "Yes, Lord," she told him, "I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, who was to come into the world." – John 11:23-27 Jesus did not say that He is the reincarnation and the life….but the “resurrection and the life”…

"As there are so many views of the Creator it will take direct intervention by the true One Creator to provide real change…."
“What do you mean by "True One Creator"? I didn't know there was a false creator...”

    - LOL When I say false creator I am speaking of the false fake gods…here this may help:
3 Who may ascend the mountain of the LORD?
Who may stand in his holy place?
4 Those who have clean hands and a pure heart,
who do not put their trust in an idol
or swear by a false god.
5 They will receive blessing from the LORD
and vindication from God their Savior.
    - - Psalm 24:3-5
The One True God that inspired the Blade…

  27. Hey Lynda :D!

"Max, this is a terrific post, very well articulated, and I envision these stages in our evolution very much as you do."

Thank you so much, darling *bowing*!

"And I agree with Slog Bite that we will have to be on the brink, on our knees, nearly reduced to ashes, before we wake up."

I am curious to see in what it will translate to be on our knees...it may be something that we do not expect at all (like Christians with their end of the world concept)...it will be interesting...

"And even then, there will be those whose immature self-centeredness causes them to prey on all that generates order and the common good."

LOL so true, Lynda...so true. I usually say that type of people are the counter-balance...so, they'll always be there despite our level of mental evolution.

"There is one point that I would like to add. And that is that I would like to see morality based on/motivated by common sense, empathy, "The Golden Rule," etc., more than on religious dogma."

And what a great point it is! I agree with you!

"I give my respect to anyone who believes in and lives according to the belief in God and "The Common Good." And hope for the future of humanity...."

    Amen!

Lynda, thank you so very much for this outstanding thought! I loved it :D!

May 2009 be the beginning of a new conscience!

    Cheers

  28. Hi Alexys :D!

"I wish that I could add to this, but it is perfect as it, right out of the box. An apropos summation of life in the universe."

    *Bowing*...thank you so much!

"Thank you for everything that you have brought us this year. I raise my glass to your friendship and brilliance. May you continue to raise the bar on intelligence and thought-provoking posts."

    "HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!"

    Happy New Year, darling :D!!!

"And this is a VERY interesting post. However, I'm not sure about the future...for some reason I've been in a very cranky mood lately and thus it leads me to being more of a pessimist than an optimist he he he he...but I SURE do hope for a better future! ;-D"

Thank you *bowing*! Oh, so sorry to hear about that :(! We must hope for a better future...it's the only way to evolve :)!

Gorgeous, thank you for having dropped by...you take care of yourself, now...and smile *hug*!

  32. Hi Peter :D!

"Considering what's happening to our world, especially the war on terrorism and the global financial crisis, distrust of anyone or anything that might resemble a threat, could be sending us back to the isolationist period of the past."

You are right...and perhaps the present state of things might represent the beginning of a new era. As history has taught us, when a new epoch is about to begin, harsh moments precede it...

"The open door policy where we welcomed all and sundary, strengtened economies and added diverse ways of life to our lives, especially for us downunder, has been seen by some, as ways to spread their evil and love of violence in order to bring others different to them, down."

    True...*nodding*...

"I would hate to see an isolationist policy take over again, but how are we to protect what our forefathers fought for and died for protecting."

We must find ways of protecting our inheritance without pushing others away. We must be creative, like our forefathers were (only we must adapt to today's challenges and demands)....

"May we all live in peace one day and welcome all and sundary as brothers and sisters, and not as someone to be mistrusted because of their different beliefs, ways and how they're dressed."

    Amen, brother!! :D

"Giving it some thought, if we could cut religion out of the equation we might be able to do that."

LOL...I am afraid religion is here to stay...but even religion will have to adjust itself to the new times...it must change. However, I do understand where you are coming from with this.

    "All the best for 2009!"

Thank you, Pete! And I wish you the same, mate :D!

And thanks for these brilliant thoughts...I always look forward to hearing from you :D!

    Cheers

  33. Swu :D...Hi!

"You are an optimist my friend. But let me see, politics and wise leaders? Isn't that an oxymoron?"

LOL somebody has to be, my friend! LOL LOL no...it is not an oxymoron...humans with their greed and lack of leadership skills turned it into an oxymoron. Politics is in everything we do in life, it is even in the way we deal with people; and yet most of us know when to be wise when dealing with life, don't we? It is not different, if that political leader is not greedy and is honest (within the possibilities of the political world).

"Max, I hope you have an absolutely fabulous 2009. I wish you all the happiness, the best of health, and success in everything you do. Your company has been a special reward that I never expected when I decided to venture into the blog world."

:D thank you, Swu!! I wish you the same, my friend *bowing*!
Oooh, that is so kind...now you caught me off guard :)! Thank you *Bowing*! You are a special chap, Swu...so here's to another year of fantastic conversations *raising my glass*!

Swu, thanks a million for your kindness, friendship and thought sharing :D!

  34. Hello LSus :D!

"What a provocative, intriguing and challenging new header you have! If I may ask what piece of art is that from?"

LOL thank you, LS LOL *nodding*! It is from Rembrandt, my friend...

"- Meteor Max…catchy….and Bob will like it!"

LOL LOL LOL I know he would LOL *nodding*!

"- LOL The next thing you know you will change your header! Oh wait you did that also!!"

LOL...LOL LOL LOL indeed! LOL...you kill me *nodding*!

"- Portuguese is such a pretty language…During the Napoleonic era natural sciences was growing substantially in popularity but many did not see it as an antagonist to “Christianity”…."

LOL yes, it is (as a matter of fact)...they saw it as a tool to challenge the Church...which it was. Sometimes I think that when people fight Christianity, it is not it they want to fight...but the Church and its past prepotent stance (which is curious how people still use the past as an excuse to fight the Church and Christianity all together...one may not want to be Christian, but why fight it? With what purpose? And why give it so much attention? *Shrugging*).

"- LOL It is the overarching theme of all these conversations…."

LOL LOL indeed...but I am not going back there...LOL...

"- Good points…as the Reformation cleansed the Church of the Roman Catholic system earlier the Protestant Church also had many false teachers/poor teachers that were unbiblical at the time you are speaking of…there have always been goats mixed in with the sheep…plus wolves in sheep’s clothing…this issue persists to this day for those who are Biblically unauthentic…"

I hear you! I think false teachers hide in all religions and groups, my friend...they are everywhere...

"- LOL LOL Like “Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan”!!!! LOL"

LOL LOL oh my...I don't think I watched it....

"- Wow…compliment taken…*noting in wide open space in journal* :)"

    LOL LOL LOL LOL *nodding*!

"- My comment was not meant as pointing a finger at you…True…as I like to say there is a difference between Democracy and Anarchy…our Freedom has limits…even theologically…"

LOL LS...I know (it was to tell you that there are people who do not wish to be kings...I wasn't necessarily talking about me LOL *nodding*)! I agree with you "our Freedom has limits"...

"- The pendulum swings again and again and…."

    LOL....

"- Well I don’t think humans are the answer….we are no different since the Garden…we live in a Fallen universe, sinful pride rules the day and only the intervention of the Holy Spirit has disabled our propensity towards total destruction to this point…I have no hope in humans but in God I see infinite hope…"

Oh brother...*nodding*! Our hope in God serves for us to be better people in order to make this world a better one...wouldn't you agree?

"- LOL Still pushing the reincarnation “theory”? Well I can help you my friend you don’t need the “reincarnation theory” as Jesus teaching is resurrection ….LOL "

LOL thanks for the quotes...but like I said: even you guys will, one day, admit that reincarnation exists LOL... :)! I am so patient...

"- LOL When I say false creator I am speaking of the false fake gods…here this may help: (...) The One True God that inspired the Blade…"

False gods is not the same as false creator...and you did say "false creator"...

"- LOL Like you have to worry about me coming back! Me your doting fan…"

LOL LOL I was trying to be modest...but I see it didn't work LOL LOL *nodding*! Oooh, I know... *throwing a rose*!

"- LOL No no thank you a billion times…:)"

    LOL you are welcome, darling!

I am so glad...thank you *bowing*! I can only hope for a better future, my dear friend :)!

"Let me say this, once you climb the moutain, you fall, and next time you may choose the same path, or better path for tomorrow."

True...I totally get what you mean! And THAT is the part of the cycle of life :)!

"Max my dear friend, all the best to you in the new year, and looking forward to your creative posts. Well done!"
