Possible Things to Say...

It can't be easy being a parent.
Before I commence, I'd like to pay my respects to all parents in the world: God bless you!

I have always found it so cute when kids start saying what they want to be when they grow up (of course half of them end up by being something completely diverse of what they had initially planned): ballerina, fireman, police officer, doctor, singer etc.
And parents always bear proud and shiny faces.
However I wonder which look their countenance would bear, and what reaction they’d have, if their kids would convey their wish to be an undertaker, for example...
But there is worse...

Please allow me to share 4 unusual professional paths that kids could dream of pursuing; and the possible things their parents could tell them.

I. “Mom, dad; I want to be a whore.”
Possible reaction: oh sure, darling; if that is your dream job. Of course the family will support your decision...when you’re 60. Until then go to school, finish your education; get a decent job; try being a good human being, a parent, a good neighbour; then when you’re 60...if you are still willing to be a sex-trader, we might help you open a brothel...over your father’s dead body.

II. “Dad, mom; I’d like to be a drug dealer.”
Possible reaction: you are so not watching “Weeds” ever again in your life. Do you think it is easy to be a drug dealer? First you’ll need to find a chemistry graduate, who is either a loser or a natural born criminal, in order to process the drugs; then you’ll need to find a couple of loser girlfriends to bag the s***; then you will need 3 or 4 losers to distribute the product; then you’ll have to organise an army of junior-mafia to protect you and your business; and finally you will have to pass math and chemistry first, then go to college (to take a Business administration degree), read the “Art of War” by Sun Tzu, join a gang and lose all the respect for human life...this, if you wish to prosper, since you have no gangster background.

III. “Mom, dad; I wish to be a model.”
Possible reaction: but of course! I don’t even know how I didn’t think of exploiting you before. I must be such a terrible parent because I should have encouraged you not to eat; to take slimming pills; to read fashion magazines all day long; I should have submitted your 14-year old to superfluous plastic surgeries; thrown you into the arms of fat, sweaty, disgusting, statutory rapists and manipulative agents; subjected you to the women-haters in the fashion world that will tell you that you are fat even if you’re skin and bone; and dreamed to applaud your drunk-like-nearly-fainting-due to-malnourishment performance on the catwalk. Sure, go ahead.

IV. “Dad, mom, I want to be a Chippendales dancer.”
Possible reaction: why would you, as a man, want to wear a thong in the first place? They are not even made of cotton. If your dream is to have a bunch of women touching you and placing money in your G-string....sure, why not...kill your mother of embarrassment. To tell you the truth, I am quite surprised at these news; given the fact that you don’t even like to exercise yourself, and you are bulging. Women will not pay to see you shake your jelly, they will call you fat and that “More to love, baby” line won’t work...this is not “The Simpsons”. I’ll pray for you.

It is not easy to be a parent. They endure a lot of stuff from their kids (and teens have the nerve to think that they are the victims here)...sometimes I think that parenthood is karma burning from all the things we put our mother and father through.

Anyway, what do you think your reaction would be if your kid, grandchild, nephew or even cousin would tell you it would want to pursue one of these odd dream-careers?

  1. To learn unconditional love, tolerance and understanding is to be willing to permit others their own path of self-determination. This includes parents, children, everyone, everywhere. Your reactions are profound teachers. They reveal layers of conditioned beliefs, morality and other misunderstandings. The power of Now enables a person to rediscover deeper states of being, universal interconnectedness and self acceptance. As you choose to accept yoruself, you also accept others as they are and realize difference is illusion of the mind. You may not choose to make choices like others, but you always learn the same lessons in different forms and circumstances.

  2. Max, I'm not a parent and I don't want to be one indeed. I would have no patience for sure. It's madness, pure madness!!! :o)

  3. Having been through this part of the parenting, I started tuning things out after 10 or 20 career change plans by the time they are twelve.

When I was a kid, the answer to the question of "What do you want to be when you grow up?" was that I wanted to be a mad scientist. I don't think they took me seriously. Anyway, it worked out to be a happy engineer, so things don't quite work out the way we expect.

  4. Hi Liara :D!

"To learn unconditional love, tolerance and understanding is to be willing to permit others their own path of self-determination. This includes parents, children, everyone, everywhere."

I agree with you. But this is not what happens most of the times, since parents tend to impose their own dreams on their children (leading them to utter misery). And children usually have a hard time in understanding their parents (it is not unusual for them to yield to victimisation [a clear sign of their immaturity]).

"Your reactions are profound teachers. They reveal layers of conditioned beliefs, morality and other misunderstandings."

True. I couldn't agree more with you.

"The power of Now enables a person to rediscover deeper states of being, universal interconnectedness and self acceptance. As you choose to accept yoruself, you also accept others as they are and realize difference is illusion of the mind."

Ah, self-acceptance...there are people who live and die and yet are uncapable of accepting themselves. Self-acceptance is utter freedom.

"You may not choose to make choices like others, but you always learn the same lessons in different forms and circumstances."

    Again, true.

Of course, some would say that this is not so linear...but in the end (with all the intricacies of life) it will all result in the same thing.

Liara, thank you so much for your contribution to this article: it struck my fancy a lot :D!

    Cheers

    Hello!!

"I'm not a parent and I don't want to be one indeed. I would have no patience for sure. It's madness, pure madness!!! :o)"

If you don't want to be a parent, then don't be. Parenthood should only be for those who really want it (in all honesty).
LOL LOL I hear you on the madness part!

Cidão, thank you so much for having complemented the article :D!

LOL LOL I hear you! I am guessing my mom did the same *nodding*....

LOL a mad scientist? Great answer!!
So true...we plan and dream about so many things as a kid, but then everything turns out the opposite of what we had thought of.

Looney, thank you for sharing your perspective as a parent: it was a great supplement to the article :D!

  7. Hi Max,

    Happy Maxday!

"I'd like to pay my respects to all parents in the world: God bless you!"

    Joining you in your salute.

“Mom, dad; I want to be a whore.”

FOCL (Falling Off Chair Laughing) - ROFL (Rolling On Floor Laughing) - HSL (Holding Stomach Laughing)

Obviously people do partake in the oldest profession. I wonder what their inner dialogue sounds like?

“Dad, mom; I’d like to be a drug dealer.”

I LOVE Weeds. It is the quintessential viewing for any possible drug career path. There is also another show, Breaking Bad is about a chemistry teacher who makes Meth.

“Mom, dad; I wish to be a model.”

    ROFL. ROFL. ROFL. ROFL. ROFL.

Seriously, this is funny, but sad. Modeling, beauty pageants, etc, ignite women's insecurities perpetuated by the myth in society that if you are a certain size, (just below size zero) you will be in demand, get the best men, jobs, experiences. You will be set for life. This is one of the biggest lies that is crammed down women's throats, ironically by other women. Every man that I have questioned about this issue says that they prefer curves to skin and bones, but there is a billion dollar business that has been built on women feeling insecure.

“Dad, mom, I want to be a Chippendales dancer.”

"...why would you, as a man, want to wear a thong in the first place?"

HSL (Holding Stomach Laughing) And why do they insist on wearing them on the beach? At least wear a modified one like Borat. ;D

."..sometimes I think that parenthood is karma burning from all the things we put our mother and father through."

    That's what my mother says.

"Anyway, what do you think your reaction would be if your kid, grandchild, nephew or even cousin would tell you it would want to pursue one of these odd dream-careers?"

A resounding NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO!

Terrific photo. Perhaps Catherine has a sword to keep her children in line? ;D

Outstanding post my dear. It makes me so glad that I am NOT a parent.

    Parent (less) Cheers!

ROFL...ROFL...ROFL...now that I read it again: it is hilarious indeed *nodding*!

"Obviously people do partake in the oldest profession. I wonder what their inner dialogue sounds like?"

    Obviously. Girl, I can't even imagine...they go through a lot, don't they?

"I LOVE Weeds. It is the quintessential viewing for any possible drug career path. There is also another show, Breaking Bad is about a chemistry teacher who makes Meth."

LOL Weeds is a great show - it is a pity it is not on in Portugal anymore *nodding*. LOL LOL LOL you know?
Breaking Bad...I haven't heard of that one yet. LOL chemistry teacher who makes meth? LOL LOL LOL oh boy....

    "ROFL. ROFL. ROFL. ROFL. ROFL."

ROFL...this is my nightmare (having a future kid telling me this: Hell NO!).

It is sad (although hilarious). I couldn't agree more with you.

"This is one of the biggest lies that is crammed down women's throats, ironically by other women."

And that is the most shocking fact, A! It is like those women who suffered under the hands of men (when undergoing genital excision) and then force others to do the same *nodding*...what is going on with these people?

"Every man that I have questioned about this issue says that they prefer curves to skin and bones, but there is a billion dollar business that has been built on women feeling insecure."

Yeah (thank God for those precious men)! But then there are those castrated men (who haven't come out of the closet yet) who encourage young girls to look like men, as a form of expressing their lack of courage to admit what they really are. So, they take it out on females.

"HSL (Holding Stomach Laughing) And why do they insist on wearing them on the beach? At least wear a modified one like Borat. ;D"

    HSL....I don't know, girl...it is ridiculous!! ROFL ROFL ROFL....you know ;D!

    She knows it...

"A resounding NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO!"

LOL just like I would! LOL....

"Terrific photo. Perhaps Catherine has a sword to keep her children in line? ;D"

It is, isn't it? LOL LOL let me share something with you: the model that posed for this painting was a harlot.
But perhaps that was the idea: to keep somebody in line! LOL

"Outstanding post my dear. It makes me so glad that I am NOT a parent."

Thank you so much, A *bowing*!
LOL girl, it is a hard task indeed!

Indeed you are. I can only imagine, Looney! I want to be a parent; I wish to experience all the joys and hard times of it (cause in the end it must be all worth it).

"Yes, there are hard times going through it, but looking back ... I wouldn't have missed it for anything."

  11. Hi Max!

Honestly, I have not thought of what my reactions would be in case I heard those from my children. But while I was reading them, I said to myself, "OMG! I think I'm going to pass out if I ever hear that from my kids!" LOL

It's not easy to be a parent but I don't regret being one.

My husband has also one of the most outrageous dreams when he was four and to be honest he carries it up to now. When asked what he wanted to be when he grows up, he said he wants to be a CLOWN. My MIL was stunned and wasn't ble to react. My FIl asked him why he would want to look like a fool? When asked by his grandma why of all careers he wants to be a clown? He simply answered "I don't want to see anyone sad." Up until this time even if he did not end up a clown he still manages to put a smile on everyone's face.

  12. Hi Max,

I am still sore from laughing.

"LOL Weeds is a great show - it is a pity it is not on in Portugal anymore *nodding*. LOL LOL LOL you know?"

This is one worth buying on DVD. I rarely recommend that, but it's that good. I usually wait until the season is done and then rent the whole season and watch the episodes back to back.

"Breaking Bad...I haven't heard of that one yet. LOL chemistry teacher who makes meth? LOL LOL LOL oh boy...."

Just have seen previews. It doesn't look as good as Weeds - that is in a league of its own.

"ROFL...this is my nightmare (having a future kid telling me this: Hell NO!)."

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.......in stitches.

"And that is the most shocking fact, A! It is like those women who suffered under the hands of men (when undergoing genital excision) and then force others to do the same *nodding*...what is going on with these people?"

Isn't that strange. Repetition compulsion (saying you will never do something and then doing exactly what you say that you will never do.)

"Yeah (thank God for those precious men)! But then there are those castrated men (who haven't come out of the closet yet) who encourage young girls to look like men, as a form of expressing their lack of courage to admit what they really are. So, they take it out on females."

You know Max, I wasn't going to mention it (but I was thinking it). You must have picked up on my thoughts. That's exactly right. I have more to say, but I have a feeling I wouldn't be able to stop myself.

"LOL just like I would! LOL...."

I think parenthood should come equipped with enough "No's."

"It is, isn't it? LOL LOL let me share something with you: the model that posed for this painting was a harlot."

    No. Really? :-o

"...you made me laugh to tears...love it! :D"

I am still laughing. If I get to the point where I can't stop, I will have to lock myself in my office. :D

  13. Hi Max!

    That is an amazing painting!

First I want to say you have invested a LOT of great humour into this article! Well done!

Hmmmm for the sake of conversation let me take this approach…

I would phone up one of my friends that have tried this out (whichever choice the kid is making) and realized that it was horrid and turned away from the “lifestyle”. I would invite them over to talk to the kid.

Statistically we also know that children that are kept busy with healthy lifestyle choices have far less potential for getting into those you listed…

Kids are very easily redirected when you do it properly…

By the way is this post a preemptive strike? LOL LOL

  14. Hi Max,

First, this has been linked at SlogBite.

Very funny, indeed. Luckily my kids never has any of these career paths in mind. They new we would lock them up if they even discussed it. Seriously, they new that they could discuss anything with us....well almost anything. All three have embarked on different career paths, and so far they have all been successful.

You definitely have a funny side to you....this was so unexpected.

The secret, if there is such a thing as a secret, to child rearing, is:
    1. both parents have to be on the same page
    2. CONSISTENCY
    3. Absolute fairness in how they are treated and loved.
    4. LISTEN TO THEM.
    5. Unconditional love
    6. Parent by example. As a parent you must walk the walk.
    7. Let them know that you are human and can make mistakes.

I'm sure there are a lot more, but these are the ones that come to mind.

Great topic, even if done tongue-in-cheek.

  15. Luckily, I was never faced with those conversations but I guess I'd listen and take it from there.

  16. Ouch...I don't know what my reaction would be. Probably speechless at first...then who knows what I'm going to say? Maybe I'll stay silent for a week HA HA HA HA HA...

Anyway, GREAT post, Max...indeed it's not easy to be parents. I remember being not too nice to my parents when I was a teenager...ughhhh...sorry, Mom and Dad!!!

  17. Hello Max,

ROFL ROFL...oh boy, you did it, this is hilarious...

We, as well, honour all parents in the world for it is not easy to cope with a lasting plan: to raise a child.
It is often said that parents shouldn't worry much about their children's prospective careers, for they will likely change their minds a thousand times.

Don't get us wrong but those 4 dream careers are uproarious.

As for Karma burning, there is a saying: what you do to your parents, it will be back to you 3 times (good or bad).

Max, thanks for making us laugh!

LOL LOL LOL can you imagine? I am guessing these odd careers must be every parent nightmare *nodding*.

  20. Hi Lady A,

"I am still sore from laughing."

LOL LOL...it is a positive sore though LOL...

"This is one worth buying on DVD. I rarely recommend that, but it's that good. I usually wait until the season is done and then rent the whole season and watch the episodes back to back."

You can rent season DVD's there? I must see if they do the same here...
I always found that show a must-see: she is one resourceful woman LOL. Did she continue to date the DEA guy?

"Just have seen previews. It doesn't look as good as Weeds - that is in a league of its own."

Aah, shows where women rule are the best (and I am not being sexist - it is because women have this pragmatism before life, that those lovely creatures, called men, don't).

"Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.......in stitches."

    LOL LOL....ROFL....ROFL...HSL...

"Isn't that strange. Repetition compulsion (saying you will never do something and then doing exactly what you say that you will never do.)"

Exactly! Wait a minute...isn't that what we do when we grow up? We say "I will never be like my mom/dad" but once we grow up we start acting like them without even noticing (and then there come those sentences "You are just like your mother/father!" lol)...

"You know Max, I wasn't going to mention it (but I was thinking it). You must have picked up on my thoughts. That's exactly right. I have more to say, but I have a feeling I wouldn't be able to stop myself."

    ^5!
LOL LOL girl, say it! Say it! Say it! LOL....oh come on, now you must say it! Gives us more!

"I think parenthood should come equipped with enough "No's."

LOL I have plenty of them LOL...

    "No. Really? :-o"

Yes, really! The Church was so mad at Caravaggio, there was even a Bishop who told him to destroy that painting; but then a close friend of Caravaggio (also a priest) kept it to himself.

"I am still laughing. If I get to the point where I can't stop, I will have to lock myself in my office. :D"

"First I want to say you have invested a LOT of great humour into this article! Well done!"

LOL thanks, mate :D! I thought we could need the laugh...

"Hmmmm for the sake of conversation let me take this approach…"

I wonder what you would tell him/her?

"Statistically we also know that children that are kept busy with healthy lifestyle choices have far less potential for getting into those you listed…"

But there are always exceptions, right? However generally speaking, you are correct.

"Kids are very easily redirected when you do it properly…"

That is exactly what my mom says! What is it with you and my mom lately LOL? *nodding*

"By the way is this post a preemptive strike? LOL LOL"

ROFL...ROFL...well...are we talking about what I think we are talking about? Or are we talking about what I think you are talking about?

    Thank you so much!

"Very funny, indeed. Luckily my kids never has any of these career paths in mind. They new we would lock them up if they even discussed it. Seriously, they new that they could discuss anything with us....well almost anything. All three have embarked on different career paths, and so far they have all been successful."

LOL thanks, buddy! Thank God, right? LOL LOL LOL "lock them up"? Would you, for real?
Every parent says that "you can talk about anything with me/us" and then when kids start talking about sex with them "whoah!! Not so fast!" LOL...I think I will have a ball when I become a parent *nodding*...
I am so happy your kids are successful: thank God :D!

"You definitely have a funny side to you....this was so unexpected."

LOL I am glad I could surprise you, Mel *bowing*!

"The secret, if there is such a thing as a secret, to child rearing, is:"

    Shoot....

"1. both parents have to be on the same page"

But are they ever? From what I have seen, mothers pretend that they are on the same page as dads and then manipulate dads so that kids can have their way (if mothers find it reasonable, of course)...

    "2. CONSISTENCY"

    This is crucial...

"3. Absolute fairness in how they are treated and loved."

    I totally agree.

    "4. LISTEN TO THEM."

There are some that question whether parents really listen or pretend to do so and then try to inforce their vision on their offspring...

    "5. Unconditional love"

I also find this of extreme importance.

"6. Parent by example. As a parent you must walk the walk."

    Absolutely!

"7. Let them know that you are human and can make mistakes."

Ha! The majority of parents do not do this: they allow their kids to idolise them (maybe because vanity takes over) and then their offspring gets disappointed when their are confronted with their parents' human condition *nodding*.

"Great topic, even if done tongue-in-cheek."

Thanks, Mel :D! [lol I love that expression]

No, it is not a piece of cake! Nevertheless I am looking forward to experiencing it :D!

"It is often said that parents shouldn't worry much about their children's prospective careers, for they will likely change their minds a thousand times."

LOL true; but there are kids that should be taken serious, I am telling you! Some, once they put something into their heads, are terrible...and end up by doing exactly what they had planned. Which made me think: what if some of these kids plan to pursue one of the mentioned career paths? It would be a nightmare to their parents, for I am sure almost none dreams of this for their kids *nodding*.

    That is a good plan...
    I don't know how I would react...I think I'd have a migraine first LOL...

  28. Maximus….

    "That is an amazing painting!"
    >Isn't it? I love it too! It intends to be a holy painting but in fact it is half holy, half profane! Caravaggio was very good at it!

    - I have noticed that Caravaggio’s painting transfer well to e-images. Some other painters do not do so well even when their quality is just as good…

"First I want to say you have invested a LOT of great humour into this article! Well done!"
    >LOL thanks, mate :D! I thought we could need the laugh...

    - I laughed thru this one! Very good…I do like to come at your articles from a “serious” veneer but this one is very funny.

"I would phone up one of my friends that have tried this out (whichever choice the kid is making) and realized that it was horrid and turned away from the “lifestyle”. I would invite them over to talk to the kid."
    >You would offer yourself to talk to the kid? You are the perfect uncle, LS :)!
I wonder what you would tell him/her?

    - LOL Well I was not referring to me…but I have been used by many friends and relatives in this roll. You simply rip off the mask of the “mystery”, “glory”, “misconceptions”, fraudulent feelings of “inclusion”, the hollowness of short term gratification/hedonism etc, you help them understand that they are not so special that they will make it thru those kinds of lifestyles unharmed…young people think they are “bullet proof” and so individually special that they will not be harmed by these kinds of actions. I also introduce the concept that there is absolute truth….Without them understanding this then everything is just a matter of opinion which sways very little authority…That is the simple short answer…

"Statistically we also know that children that are kept busy with healthy lifestyle choices have far less potential for getting into those you listed…"
    >But there are always exceptions, right? However generally speaking, you are correct.

    - Oh yes often there are exceptions…people are not mathematical formulas…

"Kids are very easily redirected when you do it properly…"
    >That is exactly what my mom says! What is it with you and my mom lately LOL? *nodding*

    - LOL Well have you ever seen your mom and me in the same room at the same time? Makes you wonder…

"By the way is this post a preemptive strike? LOL LOL"
    >ROFL...ROFL...well...are we talking about what I think we are talking about? Or are we talking about what I think you are talking about?

    - LOL Yes….

    >LS, it is always a delight to hear from you! Thank you for this amazing supplement: you have added a very important point to the article! :D

    - LOL You make it sound like we haven’t spoken in ages! Usually it is me doing that!

  29. Hi Max,

"LOL LOL...it is a positive sore though LOL..."

Yes, I am positively sore. LOL.

"You can rent season DVD's there? I must see if they do the same here...
I always found that show a must-see: she is one resourceful woman LOL. Did she continue to date the DEA guy?"

Yes, we can rent DVD's and we can get them free from the library. One library lets us check out (50) DVD's at a time for free. Who on earth can watch 50 DVD's in a week? Companies like Netflix and Blockbuster let people rent via mail. They usually come within one business day (during the honeymoon period), otherwise, within two or three days.

OMG you have to catch up on Weeds. A lot of things have happened since then. I can say that she is definitely NOT dating him anymore because of what happened. YOU HAVE TO SEE IT. It gets really juicy.

Another show you may like is Dexter. Have you seen it? It is really out there - but well written.

"Aah, shows where women rule are the best (and I am not being sexist - it is because women have this pragmatism before life, that those lovely creatures, called men, don't)."

It's true, they give it a different flavor. Though I don't watch much TV, I am loyal to the handful of shows that I watch.

"...isn't that what we do when we grow up? We say "I will never be like my mom/dad" but once we grow up we start acting like them without even noticing (and then there come those sentences "You are just like your mother/father!" lol)..."

You are just too sharp. That's exactly what it is.

"LOL LOL girl, say it! Say it! Say it! LOL....oh come on, now you must say it! Gives us more!"

I would if I knew the words would not come back to strike me down. LOL. I'll send them to you telepathically. (Concentrating........)

"Yes, really! The Church was so mad at Caravaggio, there was even a Bishop who told him to destroy that painting; but then a close friend of Caravaggio (also a priest) kept it to himself."

I know the church is never that innocent.

"LOL LOL Ah, you kill me, A! And I am loving it! :D"

Killing you softly with my song.

    A Parent Cheers!

"That is wonderful! That is one of the reasons why I love your country."

That reason is good enough for me. ;D

"LOL LOL "during the honeymoon period" - what do you mean?"

I call it the honeymoon period because they will do everything perfectly for you within the two week free trial period, then once you join and start to pay for the service, all Hell breaks loose. (You don't get the right DVD's, you get them two or three days later, you can't get the right answers from customer service, etc.) I received the same DVD three times. Netflix is number one now. Their postage bill is $300 million dollars so I can imagine how much profit they are making.

"[Weeds]I will see it LOL ;)! Oh, I love it when shows get juicy!!"

You will be shocked and thoroughly entertained at what happens next. :-o

"Dexter...Oh, I have seen it and I L-O-V-E it!! It is extremely well written! Dexter is a cool guy (in a twisted way, but he means well)! I should be appalled by what he does, but in fact my liking him overshadows his dark activities lol *nodding*."

That's exactly how I felt when I first watched it. I thought, "how can I root for a killer?" It just so happens that since it IS well written, I CAN root for a killer, which brings up a point to your post; what would you do if your child said they wanted to be a killer? (Btw, did you know that the actor who plays Dexter married the actor who plays his sister Debra? She plays the cop.)

    Dexter's Killing Me Softly Cheers.

I really apreciate this post. Well, if i may so, i guess i would add another like 'mom dad i would like to be a "sun of a beach"' . - but you already are my "sun".
Humanity always pursuit their own happyness with less suffer as a principle. We are "free" to choose our own behaviour and life path in our brief journey. So, dream careers... who are we to question other party happyness? Why did evolution took place? Who really has the right to restrain evolution, making it a dogma? I would dare to say as a person of faith, only GOD.... and at the end we are all human.

  38. Hello Circus Ciseronis….

I have been watching you around here…
    ;)

    You said:
“As for Karma burning, there is a saying: what you do to your parents, it will be back to you 3 times (good or bad).”

You capitalized the “K” in Karma so does that mean you hold one of the Eastern mystical notions of karma? Or do you mean it more in the popular concept of “what goes around comes around” ala natural consequences?

If you do mean it in the mystical manner what is the purpose of karma and who is behind it? Who decides what is “good’ or “bad”?

Is this kind of like “three strikes and your out?”

  40. Oh my God, I think it's one of your funniest yet serious post I have read!

I loved your "being a model" description... wish more little dreamy girls read it.

Anyway, I guess it's not easy being parents. Not that I'd know yet but...

Sometimes, kids know what's best for them even though it goes against their parents' will or deep wishes. I don't think my parents were thrilled to see me move across the ocean, yet they are unselfish and understood my choice (and they know I'm right here and I love them!). This is a case where parents don't deeply approved because, well, they wouldn't do it themselves, but can understand and easily respect. I guess kids wanting to be artists (assuming parents are quite conservative), kids voting right-wing (assuming parents are left-wing) etc. are just little challenges that can be overcome. Sure, there is going to be arguments, but it's all fine at the end.

However, when kids choose a path that totally goes against most ethics, that is a tough call. I strongly believe in education and moral values, not in the conservative way, but in a humanistic way. I'd hate to see my kids (imaginary kids!) becoming drug dealers, pimps, or just people with bad moral who abuse others. So it would be my job as a mother to teach them good values...

Not that all the kids who do wrong had bad education. Sometimes, it just goes wrong. It's sad.

I guess at the end, parents also have to accept they gave life, a life that might not be like them or do things they approve of.

    Vast subject!

Oooh, I see...well, I think it is the same everywhere *nodding*. And I detest it when they do that *nodding*. It is so dishonest: to allure you they display an image of efficiency; and then once they get you under their skin they stab you in the back.

"You will be shocked and thoroughly entertained at what happens next. :-o"

LOL shocked, eh? Ok, I am ready for it LOL...

These are important questions, indeed. But it seems to me that when one is a parent one projects a lot of hope and dreams on its kid(s); so its emotions come into play, and we all know that emotions blur the issue...
But I agree with you (then again, I am not a parent yet). I would also say that God is the only One Who can "restrain evolution, making it a dogma."...the rest of us: we are all humans and hence imperfect.

Gallardo, thanks a million for an incredible comment: what a fantastic addition to this article :D!

LOL LOL so true (these are great examples). I agree - plus it is better to discuss things and go through arguments than just silence or do things rebelliously (or even despotically).

We will just go day by day...but then what would I say. - Okay honestly I probably I will be shocked, but on the other hand I am going to leave the answer if it happens, so far so good, lol....Max I am always surprised of you choice of topics, you are brillaint girl! First of all, I think they are all hilarious, especially with your commentary. But what would I think?

Model? I don't have a problem with that one. I like skinny women, and I love women who take care of themselves and don't make excuses for being heavy - like that's what a real woman looks like. Right. If that were the case, then real men look better with beer-guts. I don't think so. Plus, there's a difference between skinny and trim. Eating a healthy diet, exercising, getting plenty of sleep and caring about your appearance are all good with me. Having said all of that, however, I would insist on a college education first.

    Okay, now for the boy.

    Chippendales?

Well, after I picked myself up off the floor, and had a good belly laugh, I'd have to give in. After all, having raised a few kids I know that if you deny them something, they'll go right for it. The trick is to agree with them, but offer carefully thought-out advice. If you want your kid to be a scientist, don't push math and chemistry down their throats. Be subtle, and strive to make all choices their own idea. Again, Chippendales requires a top-notch manly physique. So it's a job that promotes a healthy body if not a healthy lifestyle. But who am I to knock entertainment. If women like Chippendales, go for it. He'll probably make more money than dad ever did. But a college degree must come first.

Max, Max, max, you always surprise me. What would you say if your daughter wanted to join the Army?

    Happy trails.

  49. Lol Max, excellent and too funny made my day.

Being a parent is one of the most fulfilling and challenging tasks around. My girls have had many thoughts growing up of what they wanted to be later in life, we have always encouraged them, mind you neither of them wanted to be a whore, that's good, wouldn't have known what to say, lol.

The key is to be steadfast and give them all the love and guidance you possibly can and know that they will make some choices in life growing up that may make you cringe but know that with a lot of love and prayer it will all work out, great post Max.

I love children and want some, but meanwhile, I need to figure out what to do with me. I just babysit my friend's ;)

Are you thinking of being a mother soon?

  52. Hey Anna :D!

"Okay Max you did it this time, lol. This good one."

LOL I am glad you liked it, girl!

"You know so many people says about my baby, oh he will be this or that, or he needs this toy to make him smarter, or this is good for him, etc etc."

    Oh, that is normal...

"You know never really crossed my mind what Matthew is going to be, I am only going to guide him in the direction that may be right for him, obviously not the four mentioned, lol, and it all be up to him, I would never try to force him to have parent's dream profession, he has to like it otherwise not healthy. We will just go day by day...but then what would I say. -"

You do well, darling! Let the child decide...however guide him for that is your job :D!

"Okay honestly I probably I will be shocked, but on the other hand I am going to leave the answer if it happens, so far so good, lol...."

LOL LOL don't worry, I think I would too lol. I hear you, girl! :D

"Max I am always surprised of you choice of topics, you are brillaint girl!"

Aww, thanks, Anna...you are so kind *bowing*!

Anna, my dear friend, thank you so much for your fantastic input :D!

    Cheers

  53. Hey Swu :D!

"This seems like a completely different post than what I'm used to reading. Out of the box. Well done."

LOL I am glad I could surprise you! Thank you *bowing*!

"First of all, I think they are all hilarious, especially with your commentary. But what would I think?"

    LOL...
    Let's hear your thoughts...

"Model? I don't have a problem with that one. I like skinny women, and I love women who take care of themselves and don't make excuses for being heavy - like that's what a real woman looks like. Right. If that were the case, then real men look better with beer-guts. I don't think so. Plus, there's a difference between skinny and trim. LOL LOL LOL LOL yeah, many women let themselves get fat and then say that a real woman is like that. No, a real women is elegant, is fit, is curvey. But there is a difference between being fat and being plump (some women look better when they are plump rather than when they are skinny). Being fat ruins one's health. ROFL...men's beer-gut is so not sexy *nodding*.
Exactly, there is a difference between being skin & bone and trim. One must eat properly, exercise the body...just like you said.
    Oh yeah...education is everything!

"Chippendales? Well, after I picked myself up off the floor, and had a good belly laugh, I'd have to give in."

    LOL LOL LOL...

"After all, having raised a few kids I know that if you deny them something, they'll go right for it."

    True.

"The trick is to agree with them, but offer carefully thought-out advice. If you want your kid to be a scientist, don't push math and chemistry down their throats. Be subtle, and strive to make all choices their own idea."

    Again, true.

"Again, Chippendales requires a top-notch manly physique. So it's a job that promotes a healthy body if not a healthy lifestyle. But who am I to knock entertainment. If women like Chippendales, go for it. He'll probably make more money than dad ever did. But a college degree must come first."

Indeed. LOL LOL LOL you kill me "He'll probably make more money than dad ever did" LOL LOL. I agree.

"Max, Max, max, you always surprise me. What would you say if your daughter wanted to join the Army?"

Isn't that great :D? If my daughter wanted to join the Army I would let her go, with a piece of advice "Sweetie, be strong, head always up, shoulders straight! If someone messes up with you, you kick them right where it hurts [just like dad taught you]. Serve your nation and make us proud!"...I wanted to join the army myself, but my height prevented me.

Swu, thanks a million for your amazing comment, I adored it: you rock! :D

    Cheers

  57. Hi! I. “Mom, dad; I want to be a whore.” Reaction: First off: After picking myself off the floor I'd take them up to Kings Cross to show them that having sex in the gutter is not all it's cracked up to be.

II. "Dad, mom; I’d like to be a drug dealer.” Reaction: First off: After picking myself off the floor for the second time, I'd organise for them to visit a drug rehab centre and jail to show them what life on the dark side had waiting for them.

III. “Mom, dad; I wish to be a model.” Reaction: I'd organise for them to attend a eating disorder clinic.

IV “Dad, mom, I want to be a Chippendales dancer.” Reacton: Thank God, I don't have daughters!

    Take Care,
    Peter

  58. Hello LS,

Circulus Ciceronis is a group that believes in Karma for everything that one does bears consequences. We believe in reincarnation as well (i.e. to finish the incompleted or undo initiated tasks).
Whatever one does, one pays for it now, later on, or eventually: we never die, we resurface.

  59. Hello Circus Ciceronis!

    Great to talk with you….

So you are a group…what kind of group?

Very interesting hypothesis…so how was “Karma” created? How did it start? Who or what was its initiator? How will “Karma” end for this universe as this universe is finite and will end?

What is the standard that must be met to exit “Karma”? Who or what initiated the “tasks”?

Who or what do we “pay” for not completing these “tasks”? Why should we pay them/it?

Did we have a starting point or are we eternal?

Is there a God or gods? If so what is their identity and character?

Do you have any evidence to substantiate your hypothesis? I see nothing that supports reincarnation….it sounds like a very cruel system…

  60. Hi Peter :D!

"I. “Mom, dad; I want to be a whore.” Reaction: First off: After picking myself off the floor I'd take them up to Kings Cross to show them that having sex in the gutter is not all it's cracked up to be."

That is one good reaction, mate!

"II. "Dad, mom; I’d like to be a drug dealer.” Reaction: First off: After picking myself off the floor for the second time, I'd organise for them to visit a drug rehab centre and jail to show them what life on the dark side had waiting for them."

    LOL LOL...
    Again, a good reaction...

"III. “Mom, dad; I wish to be a model.” Reaction: I'd organise for them to attend a eating disorder clinic."

    *High five*!

"IV “Dad, mom, I want to be a Chippendales dancer.” Reacton: Thank God, I don't have daughters!"

    LOL LOL LOL....

Peter, thank you so much for your excellent comment (you cracked me up with your "picking myself off the floor" - I kept playing that image in my mind lol) :D!

    Cheers

  61. Hello LS and Circulus Ciceronis,

    C.C. I agree with you.

"Do you have any evidence to substantiate your hypothesis? I see nothing that supports reincarnation….it sounds like a very cruel system…"

Are you talking "in" or "ex" Biblia, LS?

    ReplyDelete
  62. Hello Max and Circus Ciceronis…

I do not see “Karma” anywhere….I am speaking of how it is being associated with “reincarnation”…

The quote was “everything that one does bears consequences” and it is associated with reincarnation. Who or what decides what is right or wrong demanding the need for “consequences”? How are points kept to see what “consequences” are worth how much retribution of “initiated tasks”?

Are we speaking of the elimination of physical personal existence and becoming one with the “Impersonal All”? Are we all too stupid to realize we need “enlightenment”? Are we talking transmigration of the soul?

All this in addition to the other questions I suggested to Circus Ciceronis…

Of course as a follower of Jesus I do not believe in reincarnation as it attacks Biblical teaching:

And just as each person is destined to die once and after that comes judgment,
    - - Hebrews 9:27
