Carnival Clowns by Willem Cornelisz Duyster |
The Leftist demagogy is begging to be lampooned;
therefore, this month, Maxiavelli satirises the European Left Wing
Triteness – enjoy!
Protests: justification
Question: why did you come to the streets today? What is the reason behind this protest?
Leftist: we are here today because we must protest against this government who is sentencing the people to misery! These austerity measures are killing the people, while the rich get richer and the people will not allow this anymore!
Question: so what are the alternative measures to solve the deficit problem?
Leftist: that is for the government to figure out, that’s what they were elected for! Our concern is the protection of the guaranteed rights for the people! The government cut almost all subsidies and it froze wages only to benefit the Big Capital (banks). Once again, capitalism and greed are dragging the people through the mud of misery, of poverty; and the people will not allow this anymore!
Leftist MPs: taking questions from reporters
Question: so, you are going to introduce a Motion of no Confidence; do you think it is wise to go ahead with it, particularly now, when the government is on the right track to solve this economic crisis (as reported by the Troika)?
Leftist: this government is stealing from the people and condemning it to poverty and misery! Today, for the people, it is a luxury to drink a glass of milk – that’s the current state of affairs! And then we have the symbol of greedy capitalism (i.e. the head of the IMF) saying that she worries more about the African children than about the Greek ones; the African children are not our concern! No, the People will not accept this anymore!
Question: you didn’t answer the question; but anyway, what are the alternative measures that you suggest to solve this crisis?
Leftist: we have already introduced our alternative solutions for the crisis and the people know what we are talking about. The people are going through a difficult period of misery and poverty and the people must no longer accept it!
Debate: confronting the right wing
Leftist: you must admit that your government is not doing a very good job! The people are poorer, they are not meeting their credit obligations, they were depleted of vital subsidies and the rich are getting richer! Not forcing the rich to pay the tab is not a solution to improve the economy!
Rightist: the IMF, the EU and the ECB say we are on the right track and soon our country will no longer be dragged through the mud. The rich are taxed at 45%, what else do you want?
Leftist: the troika is not our master! Besides this neoliberal government is sacrificing the people only to satisfy the speculators; and the people will no longer accept that! To answer your question, the rich should be taxed at 75%…let them pay the tab!
Rightist: That is an absurd! Anyway, the left put us in this situation. Where were you when we warned this would happen and why didn’t you back us up? Why didn’t you protest against the former incompetent administration?
Leftist: what is in the past is in the past! You say you warned the country, we say that you depressed the people with your pessimism!
Rightist: pessimism? We told the truth.
Leftist: well, the people don't need the truth! The truth doesn’t feed anyone! The People need food on the table, clothes on their back, shoes on their feet, a roof above their head, a cell-phone for emergency calls, internet to communicate, credit for vacations in Brazil! The people need the bare necessities of life…
A lie told often enough becomes the truth. - Vladimir Lenin

Leftist, Centrist, Rightist, we have all three over here plus some other fringe combinations as well and what I have learnt is that none of them can solve all our problems. The best bet is to drop out and be like me, a retired hippy.
ReplyDeleteHi Rummy :D!
DeleteLOL LOL a retired hippy? You kill me *nodding*.
Preparing this post and the next Maxiavellian one (for next month) I came to realise that the leftist and rightist demagogy is quite similar and that they both have the same views about "lies"...it was very interesting.
I don't count on political parties nor the government to solve all our problems (the least they are involved, the better) however I do expect a certain type of political work from both sides (and sub-sides) and they seem to have lost track of things (only to serve themselves) - know what I mean?
I am hoping for better political days (although I see glimpses of it).
Rummy, thank you ever so much for your comment :D.
Cheers
Hahahahaha...mázinha!
ReplyDeleteMax, great thing that the motion of no confidence didn't pass! As for manifs, yep that is exactly what they say everytime they hit the streets and it is interesting that they never offer alternatives but do they know how to criticize.
"the people don't need the truth!" hahahaha that is exactly IT!! And they all think the people is dumb enough to fall for their crap.
About that quote: increase the font of the author's name so that we see how ridiculous communists can be!
Hi Ana :D!
Delete"Hahahahaha...mázinha!"
lol no, not "mázinha" but Maxiavellian ;).
"Max, great thing that the motion of no confidence didn't pass! As for manifs, yep that is exactly what they say everytime they hit the streets and it is interesting that they never offer alternatives but do they know how to criticize."
It would never pass (we have the majority of seats) and the socialists do not usually align themselves with the communists. You know it.
"['the people don't need the truth!'] hahahaha that is exactly IT!! And they all think the people is dumb enough to fall for their crap."
lol you will be surprised to know that this line of though is one that the left shares with the right. What surprises me the most is the youth falling for their misleading platitude.
"About that quote: increase the font of the author's name so that we see how ridiculous communists can be!"
I already have.
Ana, thank you ever so much for your input :D.
Cheers
Max, thanks for the bit of entertainment, although I thought all leftists in Europe express their philosophical viewpoints via nudity(?). Anyway, the current bit of madness that circles the glob reminded me of something from the book of Revelation:
ReplyDelete"And he seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years, and threw him into the pit, and shut it and sealed it over him, so that he might not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were ended. After that he must be released for a little while."
That is the Christian view on the source of the madness. I suppose we could also argue that mankind evolved only to support the ideal anthropological tribal unit of 150 people, so that governance on any larger scale is doomed to fail.
Hi Looney :D!
Delete"Max, thanks for the bit of entertainment, although I thought all leftists in Europe express their philosophical viewpoints via nudity(?)."
You are most welcome *bowing*. LOL LOL not all of them. But let me tell that even the European rightists love their nudity, only they are more subtle about it lol ;).
"Anyway, the current bit of madness that circles the glob reminded me of something from the book of Revelation: 'And he seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years, and threw him into the pit, and shut it and sealed it over him, so that he might not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were ended. After that he must be released for a little while.' That is the Christian view on the source of the madness."
I love this passage. Don't you find it interesting that at the end of 1000 years, the dragon must be unleashed again - it is as if we are being told that human need evil to keep them on their toes (of course, the proponents of duality - like me - will say that in order to know good we must face evil).
"I suppose we could also argue that mankind evolved only to support the ideal anthropological tribal unit of 150 people, so that governance on any larger scale is doomed to fail."
I had never thought of it in those terms...do you accept that argument?
Looney, thank you ever so much for your fab comment :D.
Cheers
I think Looney is comparing the leftists to the dragon. They will eventually be contained for a thousand years and set free again to torment the world, it is all part of the cycle.
DeleteMax, yes, I am in agreement that there needs to be some suffering to bring about good. It is hard to show love to someone who has everything and needs nothing. And you are right to suspect that my anthropological argument was a disingenuous parody!
DeleteJoe, I don't think the dragon is limited to the left, being able to take on many disguises. I have a difference of viewpoint with Max in that I don't believe Europe has any right wing, but then again, maybe we need a multidimensional space to better visualize the categories. Europe's right has traditionally been for big government also.
DeleteLooney,
Delete"Max, yes, I am in agreement that there needs to be some suffering to bring about good."
And humans (and their history) keep on proving just that, don't they?
"It is hard to show love to someone who has everything and needs nothing. And you are right to suspect that my anthropological argument was a disingenuous parody!"
Which kind of love are we talking about (since love takes many forms)? Even someone who apparently has everything and pretends to need nothing surely needs love and wants someone to show them love; wouldn't you agree? A good parody it was...
I read your response to Joe: you really think that there is not a right wing in Europe? Perhaps when compared to the US the European right wing seems less radical; but still it is there (only in a different shape). I will agree with you, though, that Social-Democrats (centrist-right wingers) have factions that defend the maintenance of government involvement (more than it should) but the most powerful within Social-Democrats defend less government - hence being called neoliberal (i.e. less government, less regulation etc). But even so, things are not linear because in order to get votes, rightists have to compromise since the People is used to certain guarantees and until they get deprogrammed (and that is why crises are needed) they have to go along with the established "social[ist] vices"...
Max, my usage of 'love' there was in the sense of charity. To put it another way, most good character is shaped through hard times. Charity can be just giving regular attention to a senior, rather than dumping them into an institution and ignoring them.
DeleteAs for right wings, America's is currently fragmented into several strongly divergent subspecies so it is hard to even talk about one. We have the libertarians, the religious right (with several subspecies), the atheist right, and the grouchy hermit in the woods right. Thus, I probably shouldn't have generalized too much!
Looney,

Thanks for enlightening me *bowing*.
I absolutely agree with you "most good character is shaped through hard times" and this is one of the secrets of existence.
Again, I agree with you on charity.
"As for right wings, America's is currently fragmented into several strongly divergent subspecies so it is hard to even talk about one. We have the libertarians, the religious right (with several subspecies), the atheist right, and the grouchy hermit in the woods right. Thus, I probably shouldn't have generalized too much!"
I see what you mean but I confess I never met an atheist right winger (although I have met an Agnostic right winger), so I definitely learned something new here - thanks.
I now realise that the American fragmented right wing is similar to the European fragmented left wing (where you have the catholic socialists & communists, the atheist communists and socialists, the agnostic socialists, the other religious lefties, the more politically-centrist socialists, the more radical ones [that border communism but don't want to be affiliated with the party] etc etc) and yet they all share a common ground somewhere along the line, don't they? Now I have to investigate how fragmented is the right wing here...
Ah, generalising issues can be quite useful ;)...so, don't worry.
Have a great weekend, Looney!
Mitt Romney does like the leftists then: he never answers questions and he barely suggests viable alternatives. A spokesman of his, when asked what was the alternative (on a subject which I can't remember right now), answered that their alternatives were well known and publicly available to everybody...
ReplyDeleteHi Anonymous :D!
DeleteI believe you are referring to a press conference (given during a flight) regarding what was called the "mini dream act". Indeed, candidate Romney's spokesman gave similar answers to those the left gives. Perhaps, both sides of the political spectrum are learning from each other.
Anonymous, thank you ever so much for your comment :D.
Cheers
What did you expect from the children of Marx, Lenin, Stalin and so forth? Their papas talked nonsense, therefore their children do the same. The people cannot allow leftists to mislead them any longer! :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you for the entertaining post, it provided a couple of cheap laughs.
Hi Joe :D!
Delete"What did you expect from the children of Marx, Lenin, Stalin and so forth? Their papas talked nonsense, therefore their children do the same. The people cannot allow leftists to mislead them any longer! :-)"
I expect them to evolve; I expect them quit their silly rhetoric and admit once and for all that they have an agenda just like everybody else. Their promiscuous righteousness is loathsome.
LOL LOL I adore your sense of humour :).
"Thank you for the entertaining post, it provided a couple of cheap laughs."
You are welcome. Stay tuned for the next Maxiavelli episode: a Satire about the Right Wing.
Joe, thank you ever so much for your comment :D. Loved it.
Cheers
Maxiavelli, this is a very clever post and you make good points. It's difficult to not take sides when we feel we are being pushed into it by rogue profit-takers. This I say without being a Communist, lol...
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, the People don't need fancy cars and cell phones; the need to pay the rent!
I love your phrase "promiscuous righteousness." We see so much of that on both sides, particularly in folks who wear their religious persuasions on their sleeves, as a cloak (or sleeve, lol) of legitimacy.
Thank you, Max, for your witty and thought-provoking post! May we someday be able to extricate ourselves from the morass of conflict webbing our globe. And maybe if I live long enough, I'll be as clever as you! You really know how to see into things. xxx
Hi Lynda :D!
Delete"Maxiavelli, this is a very clever post and you make good points."
lol why, thank you *bowing*.
"It's difficult to not take sides when we feel we are being pushed into it by rogue profit-takers. This I say without being a Communist, lol..."
I understand what you mean. lol lol that was a good one.
"In my opinion, the People don't need fancy cars and cell phones; the need to pay the rent!"
That is true. Governments didn't do their job (because they were focused on competing with the private sector, in Europe at least) and so, here we are. Knowing that these crises are cyclical, I am surprised that govs are so at ease being incompetent and fraudulent before those who elect them....ok, I am not so surprised *nodding*.
"I love your phrase "promiscuous righteousness." We see so much of that on both sides, particularly in folks who wear their religious persuasions on their sleeves, as a cloak (or sleeve, lol) of legitimacy."
Thanks, I am glad you loved it *bowing*. So, so true (and that is why next month the right wing will be satirised as well). I so understand what you mean: I am also wary of folks using religion in politics and flaunting their venomous righteousness backed up by a misinterpretation of religious texts.
"Thank you, Max, for your witty and thought-provoking post! May we someday be able to extricate ourselves from the morass of conflict webbing our globe."
You are most welcome, darling :). Oh, humans are too complex for that, Lynda...
"And maybe if I live long enough, I'll be as clever as you! You really know how to see into things. xxx"
Aaah you are being generous, thank you *bowing*. We all do.
Lynda, thank you ever so much for your comment and generosity :D.
Cheers and xxx
Well I think the last quote summed it all well...being born and brought up in a state for more than two decades ruled by a leftist government, I guess I have seen it all though them and each of your words ring so so true. And the best moment came when the so called champions of communism cum socialism finally had to take the bait of Economic Development and people saw through their real masks, when they gleefully graced the virtues of capitalism in the name of progress and development. They all through would make 'Historical Mistakes' only to repent later and today in India even their existence is at stake. They are nothing more than opportunists today who need deep social refinement and get back to their basics once again. After all you can fool some people some times but not all the people all the time.
ReplyDeleteHi Kalyan :D!
Delete"being born and brought up in a state for more than two decades ruled by a leftist government, I guess I have seen it all though them and each of your words ring so so true."
Yes, Portugal was ruled by leftists for too long as well (since the revolution of 1974) so it has also seen it all through them. This being said, I am with you, brother.
"And the best moment came when the so called champions of communism cum socialism finally had to take the bait of Economic Development and people saw through their real masks, when they gleefully graced the virtues of capitalism in the name of progress and development. Very well said *applauding*.
Kalyan, thank you ever so much for your comment. Loved it :D.

"folks using religion in politics and flaunting their venomous righteousness backed up by a misinterpretation of religious texts." AMEN to that, Max!
ReplyDeleteLynda,
DeleteThanks, darling.
