Comment: Bibi Netanyahu's Speech at the UN

Last week, on the 27th of September, Binyamin Netanyahu delivered a speech before the General Assembly of the United Nations.

The Israeli Premier began by throwing a jab at Iran (who, earlier in that week, stated that Israel had no historical roots in the Middle East) and at the Arab Politicians by saying, "Three thousand years ago, King David reigned over the Jewish state in our eternal capital, Jerusalem. I say that to all those who proclaim that the Jewish state has no roots in our region and that it will soon disappear (...) The people of Israel live on. We say in Hebrew Am Yisrael Chai (עם ישראל חי), and the Jewish state will live forever."

Most of PM Netanyahu's speech was dedicated to Iran (as expected) and his words were quite straightforward, thus they dispense with deep analysis. Nevertheless, there were some interesting passages in his speech that deserve our attention and comment.
Before proceeding with the principal purpose of this article, I would like to congratulate the Premier for not dignifying Mr Abbas's absurdities with a long answer.

"We will never be uprooted again."

Comment: agreed. However, the PM missed the opportunity to present a powerful argument that would uproot, once and for all, the Arab & Persian illusion.

"The forces of medievalism seek a world in which women and minorities are subjugated, in which knowledge is suppressed, in which not life but death is glorified." and "(...) intolerance is directed first at their fellow Muslims, and then to (...) anyone who doesn't submit to their unforgiving creed. They want to drag humanity back to an age of unquestioning dogma and unrelenting conflict."

Comment: a reference to the Islamic World, which (unlike the Judeo-Christian World) has not gone through a period of Renaissance (i.e. Enlightenment) yet - and if Islamists (who glorify death) have their way, the Ummah will never undergo such Reformation. I couldn't avoid noting that PM Netanyahu used the verb "Submit" - this is a clear reference to the Quran "[Sura 3:19] The Only religion approved by GOD is 'Submission' (...)" (the "submitters" are the Muslims; so basically the Quran states that the only approved religion is Islam) - the Israeli leader did so to tell Muslims that, unlike them, the Judeo-Christian World allows its people to read, know and ask questions about different Holy Books.

"Israel stands proudly with the forces of modernity. We protect the rights of all our citizens:  men and women, Jews and Arabs, Muslims and Christians – all are equal before the law."

Comment: the antithesis of medieval Islam. Israel is a contemporary, democratic, Jewish State where all are equal under the Law. In Israel women are seen as equals, they have options and can do whatever they set their mind into. All religions are respected and can be professed in peace - the same cannot be said of most Islamic nations.

"[Israeli] know-how is in every cell-phone and computer that you're using."

Comment: a very clever criticism to the BDS Movement (started and spread by Palestinian NGOs). If they want to boycott Israeli products that much, perhaps they should start by binning their computers and cell-phones - instruments that are imperative to the dissemination of their cause.
This is an appropriate time to send a small message to Brazil: right now, you are on the wrong side of history and politics. Russia will rise and leave you behind; India will rise and be pragmatic; China is stepping into the threshold of change; South Africa's party is coming to an end (it is just a question of time; especially after Mandela's demise). Mexico will surpass you because it is on the right side of history and politics. Quo Vadis, Brazil?

"At this late hour, there is only one way to peacefully prevent Iran from getting atomic bombs. That's by placing a clear red line on Iran's nuclear weapons program. Red lines don't lead to war; red lines prevent war (...) Earlier this year, Iran threatened to close the Strait of Hormuz. The United States drew a clear red line and Iran backed off."

Comment: definitely putting pressure on President Obama's administration (although PM Netanyahu re-affirmed his appreciation for President Obama's position on the Iranian threat). By investing too much time on this "red line" subject, PM Netanyahu may have entertained the opinion that there is indeed tension between Israel and the US; when such tension doesn't exist (according to DM Ehud Barak). But perhaps Binyamin Netanyahu had a purpose: to please his radical American Jewish base (whom he excessively pays reverence to).

"Look, no one appreciates our intelligence agencies more than the Prime Minister of Israel. All these leading intelligence agencies are superb, including ours. They've foiled many attacks. They've saved many lives. But they are not foolproof"

Comment: a politician lashing out at intelligence services...was it wise?
