The European Upheaval

Darkened European Union Flag

"Criticism may not be agreeable, but is necessary. It fulfils the same function as pain in the human body. It calls attention to an unhealthy state of things." - Winston Churchill

Last week, I read that Brussels decided to replace the traditional Christmas tree by an abstract piece of art, because the traditional tree is offensive to non-Christians (in particular, to Muslims); therefore, the solution was to offend Christians and traditional Christmas lovers.

I would like to know why the city hall would want to accommodate the Muslim community when this community didn't even ask for such a gesture (the chairman of the Belgian Muslim Executive, Mr Semsettin Ugurlu, said "We know we are living in a country with a Christian culture, we take no offence over a traditional Christmas tree,"). Such step makes me wonder if the mayor, or any councilman, wasn't looking to ignite the flame of bigotry - we must not ignore that the far-right has been giving signs all over Europe; and the followers of Anders Breivik (a fervent opponent of, what he called, the "Marxist multiculturalism") are beginning to come out of the hole.

When Oslo suffered a terrorist attack, last year; socialism and its permissiveness were the motive behind the attack. Elio di Rupo, the Belgium socialist PM, incurs the risk of seeing his country suffering a similar strike. France, led by a socialist president, is witnessing the rise of attacks against Muslims despite the new political approach to Islamic nations. Somehow socialists believe that by ignoring the Islamist problem that Europe faces; by shaping their foreign policies to prove how friendly they are towards Muslims; by accommodating non-Christians and, by labelling everything right-wingish as fascist, they will actually avoid terrorist attacks and other kind of problems.

Most of Europe is presently comprised of right-wing governments who are being as pernicious as socialists. The European economic crisis is far from being solved (the unemployment rates keep rising) and what do political leaders do? Instead of focusing on job creation for Europeans, in Europe, they focus on the Palestinian cause; instead of focusing on motivating banks to inject money in the European economy, they motivate the Union to send money to improve the Egyptian and Palestinian economies; instead of investing on the European Defence (to efficiently combat those who fight for the restoration of the Caliphate and their western accomplices), they strive to fund the Saudi, Qatari, Egyptian, Iraqi, Pakistani (and one of these days, the Palestinian) Military.

History has taught us about the dangers of having the middle-class in the centre of an economic upheaval. The European middle-class has been disrupted, it is uncertain about its future, its identity and on its way to find whom to blame. When it reaches this stage, the far-right will be right there stretching its hand and offering "solutions" - what then?

  1. And how unhealthy Europe is right now! Even the United States are beginning to quit on us and turn to Asia; even the United States, because it has the right leader, is growing and companies are starting to come back - what about us?! (wow, now I sounded like a Michael Jackson's song) We are going down the drain and the Hitler-wannabes are lurking and waiting. Me, I will start packing and split before it is too late cause Europe right now reeks stupidity, incompetence, bigotry, naiveté, corruption and tacit fury. The cottage is neither happy nor safe!

    1. Hi Ana :D!

"Even the United States are beginning to quit on us and turn to Asia; even the United States, because it has the right leader, is growing and companies are starting to come back"

The US seems to have realised that it cannot wait for the EU, to get its act together, forever; thus it is seeking other markets. Besides, the EU right now is not a reliable partner (in terms of foreign policy).

"what about us?! (wow, now I sounded like a Michael Jackson's song)"

LOL LOL you did indeed LOL *nodding*.

"We are going down the drain and the Hitler-wannabes are lurking and waiting. Me, I will start packing and split before it is too late cause Europe right now reeks stupidity, incompetence, bigotry, naiveté, corruption and tacit fury."

True. Come come now, are you panicking? I admit that the cloud of extremism is hovering our heads but we haven't reached that stage where the minorities should start packing just yet (and I sincerely hope it won't come to that).

"The cottage is neither happy nor safe!"

The signs are definitely there (and our politicians seem to ignore them) but let's not panic...not yet, at least. I'll let you know when to pack and leave ;).

Ana, thank you ever so much for your input (even if a tad dramatic) :D.

      Cheers

  3. Europeans are and will always be shameless.
European taxes are being used, to aid Palestinians, with no visible results; so why not, make them sit around the table, talk with Israelis, reach an agreement and end this soap opera once and for all?
The European left got to always have a cause, just for the sake of it, and meanwhile money is squandered, this is corruption; they are neglecting domestic issues which is very grave.

"Europeans are and will always be shameless."

      Right?

"European taxes are being used, to aid Palestinians, with no visible results; so why not, make them sit around the table, talk with Israelis, reach an agreement and end this soap opera once and for all?"

How else would they express their anti-Semitism? They don't like the Arabs yet they need them to do what they feel needs to be done...capisce?

"The European left got to always have a cause, just for the sake of it, and meanwhile money is squandered, this is corruption; they are neglecting domestic issues which is very grave."

      Hear! Hear!

Lenny, my darling, thank you ever so much for your input :D.

    2. :-) So what do you think of the recent complaining that certain Scrooges in America aren't properly respecting Kwanzaa?

I had an elementary school teacher invite me to explain Christmas to her class. She was legally prohibited from teaching what Christmas is about, but she was permitted to allow an outsider to teach his culture ... with the caveat that she had to bring in several others from other religions, including Kwanzaa.

    3. Looney,

LOL the world is going bonkers.
I don't even know what Kwanzaa means (I know Kwanza as being the Angolan currency though); I mean, I have read about it but still my mind doesn't seem to want to accept it.

Seriously, teachers cannot teach what Christmas is? Americans would be shocked at Portugal, then *nodding*.

In Italy, public schools have crosses in class walls. A Nordic mother sued one school because she was an atheist and the cross in her child's class offended her...non-belief system. The Judge told her something like "This is Italy, a Catholic Nation; if you are offended by it go back to your country!"...sometimes I believe we need more people like this judge because people are losing common sense in their fight against other people's religious freedom.

      Have a great weekend, Looney.

  5. Hi Rummy :D!

"In India, sane people call this "pseudo secularism" aimed at appeasing religious minorities to gain votes for politicians. It is also called vote bank politics."

I see. So the phenomenon is universal - how sad *nodding*.

Thanks for the links. I loved the news article and I relished on the following Chief Minister Modi's words "With a sad heart, I have to explain to him that Gujarat does not distinguish between minority and majority and the state government is working for the uplift of six crore people of the state," - what a slap in the face!
This CM Modi seems very intelligent. Is he as competent as he sounds?

Rummy, thank you ever so much for your input :D.

    Cheers
