"A week ago when my youngest son, today an officer in the Paratroopers, went down south, I sent him a text message that I had decided to fight on my turf, politics, so that he maybe won't have to fight on his turf, the battlefield,"
I am sure leftist journalists and her target audience relished in this misleading explanation. First, her first turf was the battlefield (e.g. Mossad [Operation Wrath of God]); second, did she think of the youngest sons of all the Israeli women she (as a deputy PM), and her government, sent to the Second Lebanon War and the Operation Cast Lead? I wonder what the parents of Gilad Shalit, who was kidnapped under her watch, thought when reading her reasons to run for office again. Under PM Netanyahu, at least, her son neither was kidnapped nor had to participate in a ground invasion of Gaza.
Ms Livni accuses PM Netanyahu of lack of leadership (she reminds me of Mitt Romney during the US presidential campaign) but the political actions of Bibi Netanyahu prove her wrong - the PM may not be perfect but in order to protect the lives of Israeli citizens, he puts his pride and personal convictions aside (the ceasefire agreement is a testament to that); can she say the same?
Tzipi Livni was a strong supporter of the Disengagement Plan (based on her ideals). Today, it is clear that withdrawing from the Gaza Strip (to pander the world), without having prepared the Palestinian camp properly, posed severe security risks to Israel. Now, it can only be assumed that she is coming back to finish the job: to unilaterally withdraw from Judea & Samaria, without a credible and long lasting understanding between Hamas and Fatah; without Hamas dropping its Charter of hate against Jews, deposing its weapons and rejecting violence.
Tziporah Livni's failures:
1. She, as chief peace mediator, did not bring about peace.
2. As a Foreign Minister, she did not bring about peace or a Palestinian State living in peace alongside Israel.
3. As part of the Israeli Cabinet, she participated in the decision to lead Israel into the Second Lebanon War, which failed to achieve most of its military objectives [1) The return of captive soldiers Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev; 2) a complete cease fire; 3) the deployment of the Lebanese army in all of southern Lebanon, and; 4) the expulsion of Hezbollah from southern Lebanon and the fulfilment of United Nations resolution 1559].
4. As part of the Israeli Cabinet, she participated in the decision to invade Gaza, during the Operation Cast Lead, which failed both its military objectives [1) To stop the bombardment of Israeli civilians by destroying Hamas' mortar and rocket launching apparatus and infrastructure; 2) to reduce the ability of Hamas and other terrorist organisations in Gaza to perpetrate future attacks against the civilian population in Israel] - Operation Pillar of Defence is testament to this failure.
5. Despite having won the 2009 elections she failed to form a government.
6. She failed as the leader of the Kadima Party. If one cannot lead a party how can it expect to lead a country such as Israel? Tzipi Livni is no Golda Meir.
Too many political failures to ignore.
Given the present political conjecture in the Middle East (e.g. Iran, Palestine and its new UN Status and, the power struggle within Hamas) an ambiguous idealist is not what Israel needs in the upcoming challenging times...

Livni "came to fight for peace", Yesh Atid "comes to change"...there is a lot of coming in the Israeli elections campaign. I would never vote for her cause she is a pleaser - she claims religion must be separated from the Jewish State (an obvious oximoron) but when she's asked whether she will face the rabbis, she squirms; she claims she wants peace but when asked if she is willing to give Judea & Samaria to obtain it, she squirms...
ReplyDeleteI am tired of that kind of politician!
Hi Ana :D!

LOL LOL I can't believe you LOL LOL *nodding*...you are terrible!

Well, you know that I am always attentive to small details during political campaigns; and this time, Ms Livni didn't place a good bet. It would've been better for her to have used her influence to support a different candidate (like the leader of the Labour Party requested her during the summer), but the way she did things it offered the impression that she is a power grabber and that Eretz Yisrael is not exactly what she has in mind - nicht gut.
And it is a pity for someone with her record...
"I am tired of that kind of politician!"
I hear you.
Ana, thank you so much for your much your fab input and sense of humour :D.
Cheers
Oh, I see...so her son was drafted and immediately she decided to run for office? I will try to forget that she has been being cajoled to run since August or so. If there's something I learn from reading your posts, lass, is that we are to pay attention to details during electoral campaigns: Tzipi Livni's incongruence is a bad sign to all Israeli voters.
ReplyDeleteHi Joe :D!

That's what she seems to be saying. Right?
"If there's something I learn from reading your posts, lass, is that we are to pay attention to details during electoral campaigns: Tzipi Livni's incongruence is a bad sign to all Israeli voters."
Why, thank you *bowing*. I am inclined to agree with you.
Joe, thank you ever so much for your much appreciated input :D.

Olá Max,
ReplyDeleteI remember supporting Tzipi Livni because I wanted another female PM and her failure in forming a government disappointed me. I began paying attention to her interviews to western media outlets and I was appalled cause she was just another politician, just like the rest of them. The luster was lost.
The list of failures you introduced here is ruthless, Max. It makes us think though.
One of these days you will be the terror of any political candidate ahahahaha....
Tchau
Hi Celeste :D!
DeleteI understand. Once I considered supporting her for the same reasons (I thought it was about time to have another Golda Meir) but...she is not it.
"The list of failures you introduced here is ruthless, Max. It makes us think though. One of these days you will be the terror of any political candidate ahahahaha...."
The truth can be ruthless. LOL LOL LOL noooo, none of that.
Celeste, thank you ever so much for your great comment :D.

I haven't given much attention to Israeli politics so can't comment too much. My only observation is that Dr. Wiki says that Tsipi is a vegetarian, and it is impossible to be both Jewish and a vegetarian. Secondarily, she is a lawyer. In my mind, it is a conflict of interest for lawyers to be politicians.
ReplyDeleteHi Looney :D!
Delete"I haven't given much attention to Israeli politics so can't comment too much."
Fair enough :D.
"My only observation is that Dr. Wiki says that Tsipi is a vegetarian, and it is impossible to be both Jewish and a vegetarian."
Well, Dr Wiki says vegetarian, not vegan. Some rabbis recommend vegetarianism, actually (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vegetarianism#Judaism).
But I agree that it is difficult to be a vegetarian and a Jew at the same time, unless the Jewish vegetarian is willing to set its diet aside during the Pesach...unless...wait, do you think God wouldn't mind if some Jews would eat Tofu Lamb on the first night of the Passover? LOL *nodding*
"Secondarily, she is a lawyer. In my mind, it is a conflict of interest for lawyers to be politicians."
One would think that lawyers would be the best individuals to legislate, right? But they are not, most of the times.
Looney, you seem to take issue with lawyers lol lol :).
My friend, thank you ever so much for your great comment :D.
Cheers
Hello Max :)
ReplyDeleteTo me, considering Israeli Politics and the intractable positions of Hamas/Fatah and the PA, I think of the proverbial Gordian Knot and it's solution, and Bibi, like Alexander, made a masterful move by building more settlements on Jewish land as a response to the PAs attempt to work around direct negotiations. One quick, decisive move.
He demonstrates a knowledge and mastery of the reality.
As we speak, and during Operation Pillar of Fire, Israeli aid continued to the Palestinians. Israel has demonstrated consistently they would be a far better friend and ally than an opponent.
I also found heartening a recent article in Tablet magazine of the reasonable response of the White House. More people have to get past the propaganda and realize that the vast majority of the Settlements are legal under International Law. This is a fact. Using deception to sway people to ones side by apealing to emotion rather than facts is ignoble. No good comes from dishonest tactics.
The current model of Arabic governance of a Dictatorial Strongman, and Theocratic rule does not enable and empower their citizens. Surveys of Arabic populations I have read said most would like to model their societies after the Israeli mode. A pluralistic Democracy.
The Palestinians MUST recognize the legitimacy of Israel, recognize Jerusalem as Israels Eternal Capitol, and muzzle Hamas. Then they can build a peaceful and prosperous Nation. The Palestinians remain their own worst enemy.
Remaining optimistic
Kindest Regards.
Hello Jeffrey :D!

Even though the international community seems to be jumping onto Israel's neck?
Hamas/Fatah and the PA is a problem that needs to be dealt with swiftly. Their unilateral move prompted this settlement building decision and the world knew it would - still they voted for the Palestinian bid and now they complain bitterly about Israel's move...hypocrites.
"As we speak, and during Operation Pillar of Fire, Israeli aid continued to the Palestinians. Israel has demonstrated consistently they would be a far better friend and ally than an opponent."
True.
"I also found heartening a recent article in Tablet magazine of the reasonable response of the White House. I didn't read that article yet (I will look for it in Tablet magazine).
People do not want to get past the propaganda: it is easier and more comfy to be brainwashed; choose the worst team and play. Thinking is hard, Jeffrey....for those people.
Emotions cloud the issue, you know that. But unfortunately humans allow emotions to take over their lives.
"The current model of Arabic governance of a Dictatorial Strongman, and Theocratic rule does not enable and empower their citizens. Surveys of Arabic populations I have read said most would like to model their societies after the Israeli mode. A pluralistic Democracy."
No, it does not. Really? I did not know that. You know the western media (and Arabic authoritarian leaders) make it seem like all of the Arabic population hate Israel and consider its ways corrupted.
Have you heard of the Palestinian principal who was rapped because, during a field trip to Israel, he and his students danced with Israeli young women, at a beach party? PA education ministry said "the incident would imply that there was normalization of ties with Israel and it exposed the young generation of Palestinians to Israel’s illicit code of conduct,”...did the western media share this? No, because God forbid that they would admit that Palestinian politicians are rotten little manipulators and that they fall for it.
"The Palestinians MUST recognize the legitimacy of Israel, recognize Jerusalem as Israels Eternal Capitol, and muzzle Hamas. Then they can build a peaceful and prosperous Nation."
Oh, the European Union had the nerve this week to tell the Israeli Ambassador that the settlement issue endangered the peace process and the creation of a contiguous Palestinian state with a shared Jerusalem as their capital...
If Europeans are validating and encouraging their delusion how can they be expected to recognise Yerushalayim as Israel's eternal capital?
I do agree though that it is possible for them to build a peaceful and prosperous Nation when the Palestinian politicians stop playing games.
"The Palestinians remain their own worst enemy."
You know it.
"Remaining optimistic"
:)
Jeffrey, thank you ever so much for your fab comment :D.

The disengagement plan was the biggest mistake Israel has ever made. it should've never left Gaza.
ReplyDeleteHi Anonymous :D!
Delete"The disengagement plan was the biggest mistake Israel has ever made. it should've never left Gaza."
I used to think that withdrawing from Gaza had been a good thing, politically speaking (since the international community changed its behaviour towards Israel ever since); however, after having witnessed Operation Pillar of Defence and watching the Palestinian reaction I had to come to the conclusion that it did more harm than good.
The Palestinians do not want a two-state-solution: they want a One-Arab-State-Solution.
That conclusion I drew from Mr Abbas' speech at the UN last week.
Anonymous, thank you so much for your input :D.
