The French centre-right party (UMP) has decided to follow this blog's advice and put forward, as a candidate for mayor of Paris, a glamorous and modern 40-year-old woman - Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet. For a change, the right wing is starting to give a chance to younger people who keep up with the times: a true breath of fresh air.
However, Parisians seem to be snubbing Nathalie saying that she is too upper-class, too posh; having BBC (in one more attempt to do politics) quoted a think tank, Generation Libre "As soon as she opens her mouth, you just think: OK, she is from the wealthier districts of Paris and probably doesn't care about how the other half lives." We live in a world that screams "discrimination!" for any and everything, nowadays; however, it remains silent when a woman is being discriminated, just because she stems from a Premium environment.
The Left brainwashed society to believe that all individuals from the upper class are oblivious, indifferent, aloof, egotistic, elitist, superficial and have it easy; however these deviating behaviours aren't characteristic to the upper class only - they can be detected in the middle, high middle and the rich classes - and they aren't even a rule, but rather an exception.
The Parisian leftists are actually selling, to the electorate, that old cliché that the upper-class doesn't understand the lower classes; thus it shouldn't vote for Ms Kosciusko-Morizet.
(NB: the socialist party with its cheap strategy actually reminded us that it is filled with bored rich militants who are detached from reality, who feel guilty for being wealthy and, thus, persecute their peers inside and outside the political sphere)
The electorate only needs to be reminded of one small detail: when upper-class elements run for public office, they usually do so out of concern for the welfare of the society they live in, because they want to improve the system and assist those who are not as blessed as they are. However, when others run for office, they usually do it for self-promotion, to make use of the system to get rich
Voters should ask themselves who is more suitable to serve them: someone who doesn't need to steal from the people; or someone who most probably will corrupt the system for aggrandisement (of either him/herself or of the party's cronies)?
Now, the true issue behind the present French leftist sophistry: the 2017 Presidential Elections.
In France, local elections are held every 6 years; meaning that this year's mayorship elections are being seen as a prelude to the presidential ones within three years. The Polls say that if elections were held today and Nicolas Sarkozy would run, he would be elected by the French.
Therefore, in the socialist mind, bringing Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet down will make it hard for the UMP to rally its base for 2017; however, given the present state of French affairs, we would say that the Socialist Party is rallying all opposition bases by itself - and, if the UMP campaign plays its cards right, not even the secret tapes scandal will help the French socialists win the elections.
The 2017 presidential campaign has already started.
May the best Sarko run and win!

Socialists are a bunch of liars and desperate after looking at the great job they have been doing! Hollande is so desperate that now ahead of the elections these tapes are released. Need I say more?

Ma belle! I don't know if Sarko will be able to run in 2017 cause the opposition, including inside his own party, is starting to trash him and his name to block his candidacy. Everybody knows he is a significantly viable candidate and now it is time to tackle him! Tu me manquais beaucoup, ma petite!

There is one thing I am curious about regarding Nathalie: In the US, the non-Leftists are almost completely unable to articulate why a leftist policy is wrong, or why an alternative policy is right. Is Nathalie able to offer an alternative to the left and explain why it is the right thing to do?

DeleteFrom what I have seen so far, Nathalie is extremely articulate in her explanations to why leftist policies do not work. She is also very good exposing her opponent's contradictions and hypocrisy.
Is she able to explain why her alternative policies are the right thing to do? In my opinion, it depends on the subject: she is good in doing it when discussing education, social injustice and equality of opportunities (for all); however, she dodges some issues related to prostitution (apparently socialists want to criminalise one of the actors involved in the transaction) and to the time when she served in President Sarkozy's government (when journalists want her to explain how the new mayor of Paris is supposed to work with laws designed by the mentioned government).
She also has an issue with eye contact - a trait that unfortunately is very common among European right wingers (giving the impression that they are hiding something or despising the opponent/journalist).
But she possesses one admirable feature: she doesn't allow the opponent, and journalists, to cut her off; she finishes her message (this is a leftist feature that she learned well).
I just hope she and her campaign play the cards right and shun the noise the socialists are trying to make.

Anyway, before voting I always try to look at the candidates financial standing and his/her background cause that usually says more about them than the crap they say and promise!

The bourgeois are oblivious to other people's suffering and that is why Parisians should vote for the socialist candidate. But again, this is France we are talking about, aren't they all the same?

It is true when an upper class member joins politics he does so out of I wouldn't call it altruism but at least concern for his surroundings. How many politicians do we know that before politics were poor and afterwards were millionaires? In Brazil this sort of thing is usual and I think of presidente Lula, the guy was nothing and now he is a millionaire!

While she is very good debating, cause she is; I think the socialists have been clever in stressing some of her gaffes. Nevertheless, that strategy reveals that she is seen as a menace and has something to really show for.
ReplyDeleteThe socialist candidate Hidalgo, is riding the Hollande wave cause she may be involved in corruption cases and the same goes for the people surrounding her. I know, typical socialist behaviour.
The UMP just has to keep stressing Hollande's economic shortcomings and relate it to Hidalgo's possible performance at the Mairie. Ringing the corruption cases in voters ears would also be useful. we only have less than 15 days to see the results. I hope Nathalie wins. She is a smart, tough and stylish cookie.

Yeah, and she threatened to sue Nathalie for exposing her involvement in the corruption case...ridiculous. And what is more ridiculous is how a person suspected of involvement in such cases is able to run for public office.

I haven't read much on her but I read on Reuters article in January that said one thing that caught my attention, she doesn't hide she is ambitious and that being Paris mayor is a means to get to Versailles. She got balls, I like that!

Well as history have more often shown, once you are their in politics there is nothing such as high-class or low-class, ultimately they all become birds of the same feather, maybe baring a few exceptions. Maybe power has got to do with it as once the so called low-class gets the power and the authority, he/she automatically turns into a high-class overnight. So this stratification maybe there during electoral pitches, but once they reach their, its all but forgotten.
