President Obama: Do You Really Understand Israel?

It is becoming increasingly hard to defend President Obama; especially when he is revealing a remarkable ambiguity in his positions – is it him or is it his people?

The President of the United States of America set himself out to do a bras de fer with PM Netanyahu – for reasons that only his team understand, since they make no sense at all – however, I invite Barack Obama to set the old rhetoric aside and the old ways of thinking about the Palestinian Conflict aside; I further encourage him to hush his advisers and think for himself: if he opens his eyes and see it, he can still be of huge assistance in bringing about change in the Middle East – 'change we can believe in'.

We have all been dragged through the mud of the Arab-Israeli conflict for far too long. Israel has been trampled on by the world for far too long. President Obama, do not get me wrong, Israel is not a victim; but we can't turn a blind eye to the fact that some people, your team included, wish to reduce us to 'historical proportions' – well that's not happening. And sir, you do not threaten the State of Israel.

So, how can you help to begin cleaning the mess? One solution is to reset the whole affair – this is not a sign of weakness (so politicians should stop acting as if it were), it is actually a sign of political strength.

Resetting the Issue

Let's go back to the beginning. What's Palestine? Palestine is the “historical homeland of the Jewish People”. Which documents support this claim?

The Holy Bible (a historical and religious document) and the British Mandate for Palestine (an international legal instrument that recognised civil and religious rights to non-Jewish communities in Palestine but no national rights whatsoever). Was there ever an Arab nation called Palestine? No. The idea of Palestine as an Arab State was born as the result of the conflict between Arabs and Zionists.

"The Palestinian people does not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity. In reality today there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. Only for political and tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people, since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct 'Palestinian people' to oppose Zionism. For tactical reasons, Jordan, which is a sovereign state with defined borders, cannot raise claims to Haifa and Jaffa, while as a Palestinian, I can undoubtedly demand Haifa, Jaffa, Beer-Sheva and Jerusalem. However, the moment we reclaim our right to all of Palestine, we will not wait even a minute to unite Palestine and Jordan." - Zahir Muhsein: Member PLO Executive (March 31, 1977)

"Since we cannot defeat Israel in war, we do it in stages. We take any and every territory that we can of Palestine, and establish a sovereignty there, and we use it as a springboard to take more. When the time comes, we can get the Arab nations to join us for the final blow against Israel." - Yasser Araft, in a taped interview on Jordan TV (on September 13, 1993; same day the Oslo Accords were signed)

President Obama, let's pause for a minute and briefly analyse these two quotes:

1- The main message is a most uncomfortable reality (that of Pan-Arabism). The West, and the rest of the world, may want to ignore this fact but as Benn Ramnarine said "The Pan Arab Nationalism drive is still there", therefore the mindset - when it comes to PLO, PA, Hamas and all the other militant groups - is that the goal of the struggle remains being the expulsion of Jews from the historical homeland of the Jewish People (Palestine) and then merge that land with other Arab Nations.
Why? Because, in the Arab leadership perspective, the very existence of Israel, as a Jewish State, is an unbearable change to the traditional order of things (i.e. an Islamic Middle East); it is a thorn in the Islamic Pride, in its sense of superiority. Thus, counterfeiting an Arab Palestine identity was the natural thing to do, in the fight against the Zionists.

2- The more land is given to the Arab Palestinians, the closer they will get to implementing their plan "We take any and every territory that we can of Palestine, and establish a sovereignty there, and we use it as a springboard to take more" – this goal hasn't changed. And if Israel isn't strong enough to face the world, we will have a situation where (G-d forbid) Samaria & Judea are handed over to the PA and (as indicated by the recently renewed United Arab Command) the Arab nations will join PA to deal a final blow to the Jewish State. Make no mistake, the signs are all there.

"Brothers, half of the Palestinians are Egyptians and the other half are Saudis. Who are the Palestinians? We have many families called Al-Masri, whose roots are Egyptian. Egyptian!" -- Fathi Hamad, Hamas Minister of the Interior and of National Security (2012)

So what are we doing, why is money and political clout being wasted on a well thought out plan to destroy Israel? 

The West takes pride in being a morally flexible political beast, that acts out of interests – very well, we can certainly understand that as we do the same; however, is the West certain - given its ever growing problems with homegrown jihadists and imported Islamists - that it is in her absolute interests to continue to fund this Ploy? News Flash: it is in the West's utmost interest to uphold the international law, the international agreements and truly support Israel beyond the usual banalities.

So, President Obama, what are you doing? Max calls you a Political Al Capone, but are you really? A Political Al Capone would have the precious sense of timing to say the right words and match them with actions; he would have situational awareness, mainly. You, Mr President, have lost that ability. But since the buck stops with you, I ask you: is America absolutely secure that it is in her interest to continue supporting the Pan Arab Nationalist ambitions?

Definitely, it is time to reset the whole thing.
