The Greenblatt Peace Plan: The Anathema

There have been some vague reports about the alleged peace plan concocted by the Trump Administration. The Designer of that plan is Jason Greenblatt who expects discontentment from all parties (Side Note: Mr Greenblatt, the “parties” are the least of your concerns; you should be worried about the King of Judgment instead).

A Plan to Test the Waters

Everybody is talking about the Greenblatt peace plan even though there are no details about it. So what are people talking about exactly? The promotion of an incomplete plan suggests that the waters are being tested to observe and analyse the mood of all parties involved in the conflict. They are throwing concepts at the wall to see what sticks and so far only one stuck: the creation of a Jordanian-Palestinian-Israeli Confederation. But how this confederation would work no one explains in concrete terms, yet Jordan has already rejected the notion, while Abbas implied to be interested if Israel is – what?

Definition of Confederation

  1. An organisation composed by different groups of people working together for political reasons.
  2. A group of countries joined together for economic or political reasons.

Some say the intention is to make Jordan incorporate Samaria and Judea into its Kingdom and grant citizenship to all the Arabs living in that area. Others say the objective is to make Jordan incorporate the PA controlled areas in Samaria and Judea while allowing Israel to keep the Jewish settlements. And then others claim the purpose is to grant the Palestinian Authority 11% of the territory granted to the Arabs under the 1947 Partition Plan, with Jordan calling the shots and Israel controlling borders and airspace. Again, what?

So, what do we have so far? Nothing but speculation. And what is perplexing is that President Rivlin said, in public, that the “confederation with the Palestinians would be a momentous opportunity for peace” – either he has more details than the general public or he issued a comment based on nothing. Besides, how many times have we heard that argument (“opportunity for peace”)?

  • The Partition Plan was a good opportunity for peace with the Arabs – it didn’t work
  • Granting Control of the Temple Mount to the Arabs (the Waqf) was a good opportunity for peace – it didn’t work
  • Giving up the Sinai Peninsula to Egypt was a great opportunity for peace with the Arabs – right…
  • The Oslo Accords were a good opportunity for peace – Intifada I and II plus countless amounts of Terror attacks
  • The 2005 Disengagement Plan (i.e. unilateral withdrawal from Gaza) was a reasonable opportunity for peace – it only gave rise to the 2006 Lebanon war, to Operation Cast Lead (2008-2009), to Operation Pillar of Defence (2012), to Operation Protective Edge (2014), and to the Car and Knife intifadas (since 2015 up to now).

With all due respect to President Rivlin, he should learn that he doesn’t have to comment on absolutely everything on the political menu of the day. Plus, is there a manual of some sort instructing Israeli Presidents to appease foreigners and militate against the Jewish People? Because I remember Reuven Rivlin, the Likud party member….

The Real Plan

“And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying:
'Command the children of Israel, and say unto them: When you come into the land of Canaan, this shall be the land that shall fall unto you for an inheritance: Your south side shall be from the wilderness of Zin close by the side of Edom, and for the western border, you shall have the Great Sea for a border; this shall be your west border. And this shall be your north border: from the Great Sea you shall mark out your line unto mount Hor. And you shall mark out your line for the east border from Hazar-enan to Shepham; and the border shall go down to the Jordan, and the goings out thereof shall be at the Salt Sea; this shall be your land according to the borders thereof round about.'” (Numbers 34)

This is what is going to happen: Israel will be willing to negotiate with Egypt and Jordan the following,

  1. Egypt absorbs the Arabs in Gaza
  2. Jordan absorbs the Arabs in Samaria and Judea
  3. Israel accepts to pay a compensation to Arab families, in Palestine, and help the countries to integrate their brethren – i.e. the Arab citizens that are not loyal to the Jewish State and do not wish to live under Israeli sovereignty.

Jason Greenblatt said “Peace can only succeed if it is based on reality,” but what is reality? Reality is:

  • Those Arabs in Palestine came from Arab countries around Israel to work for the early Jewish returnees
  • Those Arabs in Palestine do not speak a specific language that is not spoken anywhere else (they speak Arabic); they don’t have a specific culture that is not accepted anywhere else; and they are Muslims like the rest of the Arab world (composed by 22 different countries).
  • There is only one Jewish State in the entire world, there is only one place where Hebrew is spoken, there is only one place where Jews can be free and feel at Home.

Once we admit this reality and find a way to transmit it to our Arab counterparts, then we will have Peace. Furthermore, even though the US is the best ally a State can have, it is not up to America, or any other country, to present Peace Plans to the Middle East – been there, done that, didn’t work. In the words of President Trump:

“It would be folly to assume that repeating the exact same formula would now produce a different or better result.”

In this case, imposing external Peace Accords, or even Plans, is an old formula that will never produce positive results. Therefore, now it is up to Israel and its Arab counterparts to come up with a realistic Solution for all. Will it take time? Yes, it will; but it will be a final and everlasting one. This is a Middle East Affair. This is a new Phase in the History of Mankind.

  1. When is the west going to learn? Let Israel and the Arabs be! I get it though, a lot of money is involved in this conflict, everybody is making billions of dollars and who wants to give that up?

  2. I have serious doubts. In any case, from all accounts, ideas have just been floated to see how they are received. I doubt that anything will happen soon.

  3. Hopefully, the world will gradually understand that they need to sit out on any Middle East affair, regardless of the fortunes they make there. At some point, mankind will have to place human development above corruption - which is a huge distraction. But one thing is certain: we will have Eretz Yisrael! I have no doubts about that and it will be in my life time. Good job, Max.

  4. I agree that old formulas do not work and have not been working at all. We need something new and anything that means jeopardizing Israel's security is unacceptable. But can we ever get Eretz Yisrael back? I pray for it everyday though I'm not sure I will see it in my life time, but if I do: praised be the Lord for once again He proved there are no impossible things for Him! Shabbat Shalom and Chag Sukkot Sameach, DS!
