President Obama's UNGA 2016 Speech: Eyeing His Next Job

President Obama delivered his last speech before the UNGA, on the 20th of September 2016. POTUS sent messages to every corner of the world, though he made some serious mistakes in his address; and he used the UNGA annual session to make a political case for Hillary Clinton. There was an unusual detail in Pres. Obama's speech this year: he employed the personal pronoun “I” too many times – as if he were distributing his Resume to prospective employers.

On the 20th of September, the expression of the day was “existing international order”. Apparently, the United States (and others) are extremely concerned with keeping the current “existing international order”, however for a president whose speech focused on “moving forward, not backwards” (echoing his 2012 campaign slogan) this concern seemed rather backwards. Nothing stays the same forever, and President Obama knows it – he said so in his speech, therefore this ambiguity, this dissonance, reflects the US' helplessness and uncertainty about the future. America is looking at the world and, perhaps, for the first time ever it doesn't know what to do; how to anticipate what's coming. But the United States of America have nothing to fear, if they do the right thing.

If you read the speech in its entirety, you will wonder whether Barack Obama is being haunted by Samuel P. Huntington's “Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of World Order”. It's as if he has been rejecting the simple truths in that book for so long – and, in the past, he has often repeated “I reject the notion that there will be a clash of civilizations” - that now he's coming to the realisation that Huntington may have been right all along, in spite of all the successes of our present international order.
While open markets, capitalism have raised standards of living around the globe, globalization combined with rapid progress and technology has also weakened the position of workers and their ability to secure a decent wage.

Ms Mariana Mortágua, a far-Left Portuguese MP (who defends the end of capitalism in Portugal since, in her opinion, it produced more poverty), should read this passage very carefully and learn.
Over the last 25 years, the number of people living in extreme poverty has been cut from nearly 40 percent of humanity to under 10 percent. That's unprecedented. And it's not an abstraction. It means children have enough to eat; mothers don’t die in childbirth.

Barack Obama may have made a political case for Hillary Clinton (indicating she would continue his legacy) but he endorsed one of Donald Trump's arguments “In advanced economies like my own, unions have been undermined, and many manufacturing jobs have disappeared. Often, those who benefit most from globalization have used their political power to further undermine the position of workers.” - is this a nod to the Republican candidate?

Falling in the Trap

The US president made three unfortunate statements:
  • “A world in which one percent of humanity controls as much wealth as the other 99 percent will never be stable.”
  • “Israel recognizes that it cannot permanently occupy and settle Palestinian land.”
  • “Because a society that asks less of oligarchs than ordinary citizens will rot from within.”

Sheer demagogy. Perhaps, these statements are part of the campaign the president is running for the DNC; otherwise it does not make any sense that an intelligent man like Barack Obama would ever use a false argument based on fictitious data: 1% is not a real number, as it does not include all the rich people in the world (those who do not show their wealth); and 99% puts the poor, the low middle class, middle class, and the upper-middle class together in the same pot (how can this be when one social stratus is better off than the previous one?).

President Obama may be seeking a job at The Brookings Institute or some other Arab-funded Think Tank; otherwise why would he say that Israel is occupying “Palestinian” land?
  • Is he that intellectually dishonest?
  • Is he oblivious to what the Scriptures say?
  • Is he catering to the Black Lives Matter Movement?
  • Is he subscribing to Muslim Brotherhood literature?
  • Is this his way of getting back at Bibi Netanyahu? Well, PM Netanyahu is the least of his problems.
  • Is Barack Obama the State Department's lackey? Surely, he has heard of the Levy Report.

Any statement that refers to redistribution of wealth is deficit of intelligence. Barack Obama ended his speech saying he wants to be a co-worker with G-d: how, when his fiscal ideal goes against G-d's fiscal and equality laws?

It's a shame that the US President made such gross mistakes in his pursuit of a job in a Think Tank.

Conclusion

We always have great expectations when it comes to Barack Obama's speeches; however, this year, his UNGA delivery was beneath the leader of the free world as it was a self-serving milkshake speech.

His address was half and half: half of it raised good points, it was intelligent; and the other half reflected an absolute ignorance of the situation outside the political bubble.
I have seen that spirit in our young people, who are more educated and more tolerant, and more inclusive and more diverse, and more creative than our generation; who are more empathetic and compassionate towards their fellow human beings than previous generations.

Generation Z: 'Teenagers born after 2000 are the most socially conservative generation since the Second World War, a new study has found. The youngsters surveyed had more conservative views on gay marriage, transgender rights and drugs than Baby Boomers, Generation X or Millennials.' (Daily Mail)

Thanks to the likes of Barack Obama, and thanks to leftists, there's hope for the future: the next generations are coming out conservative. Furthermore, how does he reconcile his view of the present western generation with the Muslim youth (both in Islamic states and in our societies) who are intolerantly uber conservative?

Thank you for your service, President Obama. And it was interesting to hear the delivery of your Curriculum Vitae.

  1. Obama is losing his luster. He knows he's in his last days so now he doesn't give a shit. I just hope the next president will undo the harm he has done to the world.

    1. Hi James :D!

He seems to have given up, yes. Has he done that amount of harm to the world? Hmmm, I don't think so. I think his only flaw was his FP - what a mess. But others will disagree, of course.

James, thank you ever so much for your comment :D.

      Cheers

  3. Obama repressed his attacks to Israel for eight years. This year he took the gloves off and said the O word. And he calls himself a man of law! Counting the days to see him gone.

    1. Hi Marc :D!

      Welcome to DS!

When it comes to the law, President Obama is even more disappointing. Either he doesn't know what the Levy Report is (which is grave) or he knows about it and is playing dishonest (which is even graver). No excuse.

We are in a time when people are fed up with the way politics is done. Dishonest politics, lies, twists and turns, etc: people are tired of it. President Obama promised change: we saw none on his part.

Marc, thank you so much for your comment :D. Hope to see more of you here.

      Cheers

  4. We need to look at the employment of the word "occupation". He is not that intellectually dishonest, so there's meaning to it, but we need to see if that meaning is proper or not. President Obama started off with good intentions but he got lost along the way. His entourage needs to be researched. It's a shame that his mandate ends in a bad note. Notwithstanding, thank you for your service, Mr President.
