Portugal used to be a quiet place with good food, good wine and good people (if you exclude the inhabitants from Lisbon). In the old days, Americans thought Portugal was a Spanish province and that we all spoke Spanish. Then suddenly, during the 2008-2012 financial crisis; all eyes were set on Lusitania and after it survived the Troika it became the new thing in town. In 2015, the 6-Step Plan to Destroy Portugal was put into speed.
Step 1: Awakening
1968: Operation Brainwash the Youth started and they were the ones screaming about the Black people's suffering in the hands of the Whites in Africa – the youth hysteria was the perfect excuse to start the decolonisation efforts.
1974: the 25th of April Revolution. European Socialists look at this Revolution as an example of a peaceful popular uprising since it occurred without one bullet having been shot (they forget that many bullets had already been shot in the colonies during the Independence Wars).
The Revolution took place not because the Portuguese people wanted a huge change but because international forces used the Portuguese idealists to weaken Portugal. So the first step was to pressure Lusitania into giving up the colonies in Africa (even if it meant to hand over countries to unqualified people who’d ruin the lives of millions of people for the next 45 years).
Step 2: Following the Herd
1975-1980: The youth is to flock to Leftist Movements and fight the "Fascist" aggressor (till this very day, if you declare yourself a Conservative or a Right Winger in Portugal, you will be called a Fascist).
In 1975, the Communists tried to carry out a coup d’état but on the 25th of November Lieutenant-Coronel António Ramalho Eanes, supported by the Conservative and Ultra-Conservative elements of the Armed Forces, countered the Coup and restored calm to Portugal (NB: it’s suitable to inform that from April 1974 to November 1975 the Communists nationalised most of the private property in Portugal and chaos ensued – there are accounts, by elder citizens who witnessed the events at the time, of debauchery in the streets, of occupation of flats, villas and farms by communist forces and violence).
In 1976, the Communist Party admitted defeat and Plan B was set up. If they couldn’t rule then their cousins, the Socialists, would by posing as moderates. Analysing the events from then until now, one concludes that that Moderation translated into making use of National Socialist Politics (i.e. Hitler’s economic views on the use of Capitalism in Socialism’s favour; on propaganda to demonise Conservatives, Religion and Liberal Economics; High Taxation and Big Government).
1980: Convince the people that alone Portugal is nothing. Joining the European Community (EC) was the right thing to do, as it would help the country to develop economically.
Step 3: The Beginning of the Fall
1981-1986: After Portugal sorted its political crises out (i.e. it had 8 Prime-Ministers in a 10 year period, from 1976 to 1986) it finally joined the EC in 1986. Back then the EC was still a valid project with only three organisations: the European Economic Community (common market [end of tariffs among European nations, free circulation of goods and people]), the Steal and Coal Community (to prevent a new war between France and Germany) and the European Atomic Energy Community.
Then PM AnÃbal Cavaco Silva used EC funds to develop Portugal, which up to 1986 was in very poor conditions, and put the country on the Map of Industrialised States. When PM Cavaco Silva left office he left Portugal in an excellent economic standing (way ahead of Spain) and the country was respected.
Step 4: Cause the Collapse of the Right Wing in Portugal
1995-2001: António Guterres (the now Sec-Gen of the UN) was elected Prime Minister. In four years, he managed to squander all the wealth left behind by PM Cavaco Silva and Portugal never recovered from it again. In 2000, he was re-elected and a year later he abandoned ship when it became too hard to hide his incompetence.
2002-2004: José Manuel Durão Barroso, a former communist then allegedly turned right winger, was elected Prime Minister to fix the economic problem created by the Socialist Guterres, which he didn’t. In June 2004, he announced he’d quit his position to become the President of the EU Commission. The country fell into chaos.
2004: Pedro Santana Lopes, right winger, is appointed the new PM in July but months later the Socialist President Jorge Sampaio (the former UN Commissioner for Tuberculosis) dissolved the parliament, with a Majority Government, and called for new elections.
2005-2011: José Sócrates, from the Socialist Party, was elected Prime Minister in 2005. By 2009 Portugal didn’t have one cent to pay salaries and pensions yet this PM hid it from the public and managed to be re-elected. Two years after his re-election he left office, in 2011, and Portugal’s economic hole was so big it had to resort to the IMF again – meaning it had regressed 27 years. José Sócrates has been indicted for corruption and other crimes committed while in power (Ref: Operation Marquês).
2011-2015: Pedro Passos Coelho was elected Prime-Minister, in 2011, to stop the financial haemorrhage - which he successfully did. Meanwhile, the Socialists and their Far-Left allies branded the much needed austerity measures to achieve Fiscal Discipline as Theft. They accused the Right Wing, and especially PM Passos Coelho, of having caused Poverty to the Portuguese People and of taking their money for no reason other than ideology (i.e. Economic Liberalism). Nevertheless, PM Passos Coelho was re-elected in 2015 with a minority government.
2015: after the election results were announced, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, now the President of the Portuguese Republic, suggested live on TV that the Socialist Candidate (António Costa) would form a Coalition with the Communists and the Far-Left to govern the country. His former student obeyed and curiously this crisis didn’t wreak havoc at the Stock Exchange. Since then, the Portuguese Right Wing is moribund.
Step 5: Declare a Socialist State
2019: the moribund Right Wing Parties lost resoundingly the European Elections (although voter turnout was only circa 30%). The Socialists ran to declare Portugal as a Socialist State and have the Catholic University predicting a victory of 40% in the October General Elections.
Is Portugal a Socialist State?
- Schools and Hospitals are in bad shape. Hospitals are even turning pregnant women in labour away
- Police officers, Military Men, Nurses and Doctors are poorly paid
- Minimum Wage is ridiculous (way below €1,000)
- Minimum Pensions are even more ridiculous (between €169-€274)
- Electricity, Water and Gas costs are the highest in Europe and double taxed
- Rents have tripled
- Taxes have increased
- Government has increased
- Public Transportation vehicles are obsolete
- Public Investment is dead
- Immigration has been facilitated
- Nationality laws have “Improved” (marry or simply live with a Portuguese for 3 years and you are eligible to become a Portuguese National)
- Wealthy Foreigners have a 10 year tax exemption if they choose to live in Portugal
- The country is now a Safe Haven for Money-Launderers and Terrorists.
Portugal is definitely a Socialist State; but hey, national deficit is near 0% and Europe applauds the country as a great example of economic comeback, at the expense of Portuguese Suffering and Security.
Step 6: Definite Victory
2020: Portugal has been weakened. It is void of a Right Wing because the rightists have turned into puppets that repeat the same International Socialist spiel: “Globalism is our greatest achievement”, “Sovereignty is protectionism”, “the European Union is good for us, we would be dead without it”, “Patriots are Racist, Far-Right”, “We need to fight Populism”, “The Far-Right is coming back”, “National Socialism is Far-Right”, “Jerusalem is not Israel”, “We are against the Israeli Occupation of Israel but we fight for Israel’s security and right to exist”, “Hezbollah are freedom fighters”….
We do not merely destroy our enemies; we change them. ― George Orwell, 1984
If the International Socialist bothered to seek the destruction of Portugal is because they are afraid of its potential. But which purpose does this obsolete form of doing politics serves? To be revealed in the next Chapter.

ReplyDeleteIt's important to note that Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa's advice may not have originated from his own mind but from foreign entities. At the time, a foreigner socialist was sitting in Spain eagerly awaiting the results of the 2015 elections.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know Portugal had experienced a near Soviet experience! How disturbing. More Americans should read this, mainly those who are thinking about voting for Bernie Sanders. Do you think Portugal will go through another financial crisis soon?
ReplyDeleteThe plot to weaken Portugal's power started in the 15th century when Spain demanded that Portugal would expel her Jews if King Manuel wanted to marry the Spanish Princess. The King did it, then he realized he made a mistake cause the Jews controlled the trade, the discovery expeditions and the sponsored the Kingdom's spending so he made a deal with the remaining ones. In the end he didn't marry the Spanish girl but Portugal was already falling. I wouldn't be surprised if Spain was involved this time around too!
ReplyDeleteHi Anon,
DeleteGood point. Thanks.
Cheers
Correct, the Right wing has been changed in a more moderate form of Socialism as they repeat the same lingo as the Left and defend the same policies as they do. What better way to destroy conservatives than leading them to act and speak like leftists?
ReplyDeleteAs for Portugal: I agree a group of people seek her destruction, but is it Spain alone? No. We need to look at other players as well.
