The Great Seal of the United States |
The world followed the latest American showdown, better known as the Shut-Down. George Friedman, in "The Roots of the Government Shutdown", summarised the origins of the showdown as follows:
"It originated in a political dispute. U.S. President Barack Obama proposed and Congress approved a massive set of changes in U.S. health care. These changes were upheld in court after legal challenges. There appears to be significant opposition to this legislation according to polls, but the legislation's opponents in Congress lack the ability to repeal it and override a presidential veto. Therefore, opponents attached amendments to legislation funding government operations, and basically said that legislation would only be passed if implementation of health care reform were blocked or at least delayed. Opponents of health care reform had enough power to block legislation on funding the government. Proponents of health care reform refused to abandon their commitment for reform, and therefore the legislation to fund the government failed and the government shut down."
Fortunately, the showdown is over and civil servants are back to work. However (and since America incurs the risk of having another tasteless political show in January), I would like to turn my attention to the elements that started the crisis...who are they; what are their real intentions; but above all, who paid them to set up this show and try to bring America to its knees?
Many Tea Party, and even some pseudo-conservative, elements are tearing the Republican Party apart and alienating proper Conservative people. The things those elements say (e.g. President Obama is not American; he is a Muslim; he is an infiltrated Muslim Brotherhood agent - without any proof whatsoever - etc) are simply absurd. I used to think they were racists; but now I realise it is not about racism at all (since it is all too staged to be true), it is about grabbing an opportunity to abuse the American democratic process and, in a coup de grâce, put the commander-in-chief down.
The world is upset with America right now. It accuses her of having been irresponsible and holding the globe's economy hostage, once again. The US' main opponents started to suggest that if America can't lead the world any longer, she should just step aside and let others get the job done.
What would happen if America would lose its position as a Global Power, over its constant political crises? To start with, Russia and China would vie for the position; then given their usual diplomatic stance, theocratic opportunists would be at ease to implement their ultimate Plan.
There are more ways than one to skin a cat...
The American Shut-down made me recall Ayman al-Zawahiri's words:
"We must bleed America economically (...). America's weak spot is its economy, which began to totter from the drain of its military and security expenditure,"

I reiterate what have been maintaining for the past few years. Ayman al-Zawahiri and his followers are winning this battle.
ReplyDeleteAyman al-Zawahiri does not have the capacity to lead an Al Qaida capable of winning the war against the west or the United States. The only battle Al Qaida managed to win was the 9/11, since then it hasn't been capable of hitting America again; and since the death of OBL it lost even more ability to make a dent in America!
Delete"We must bleed America economically (...). America's weak spot is its economy, which began to totter from the drain of its military and security expenditure,"
Delete~ Ayman al-Zawahiri
Hi Rummy :D!
DeleteYes, you have been saying it for quite a while. However, I do not agree that AQ is winning this battle: the US remains the number One World Power, despite all things. Nevertheless, I have to agree that if the Republican Party doesn't put its house in order...the constant political crises (e.g. not passing the budget) will cause Al-Zawahiri and his followers to win.
Rummy, thank you so so much for your super comment :D.
Cheers
Hi Anonymous :D!
DeleteRummy already gave you the context of his comment (which I believe you didn't understand)...I just came to thank you for your input :D.
Cheers
America is finally paying for its imperialism! I don't care who is paying those guys at the Tea Party as long as it works!
ReplyDeleteHi Celia :D!
DeleteYou reckon? I am not sure America has ever exercised imperialism...has it, really? And here I was thinking it had been us, the Europeans...
Celia, thank you so much for your input :D.
Cheers
Max, just consider this advice a close friend of al-Zawahiri's gave him:
ReplyDelete"Remember, if you are a member of any group, you cannot be the leader"
Do you really think this terrorist has the power to make America bleed? I got an answer for you: NO!
Hi Anonymous :D!
DeleteWell, he is not charismatic is he? But he seems to keep things working over at the Al-Qaeda realm.
Anonymous, thank you ever so much for your input :D.
Cheers
Max, the issue for the Tea Party isn't whether or not Obama is a Muslim. It is that he has introduced Obamacare, which is socialized medicine. What they buck against is any hint of socialism. They also fear that he is trying to take away the rights guaranteed in the Bill of Rights. Currently he is trying to take away the right to bear arms. Whether or not you agree with the right to bear arms, you have to understand that this is a basic right of American citizens that was thoughtfully put in to the Bill of Rights by the founding fathers. Tea Party activists understand the reasons behind their including this right.
ReplyDeleteWhat bothers me is that the Tea Party takes a lot of blame for protesting the actions of the left, but the liberal media does not blame the leftist activists for protesting. We had left wing protestors take over the city of Oakland, CA. They took over a city square, and left filth everywhere, and caused local businesses to lose clients. These protests also brought in non-activists who camped out with them. This brought crime in to the area. The city of Oakland had to pay a lot of money to clean up after them. This is the way the left protests. The right protests legally and peacefully. The left doesn't get a permit to protest. The right does. I am conservative, so I support the Tea party and their attempts to stop Obama from running rough-shod over us. What do you do when you have a president who tries to take away your rights? They must protest!
Hi D! :D
DeleteI am not talking about the Tea Party; I am talking about some nefarious elements within the Tea Party and GOP, who do accuse President Obama of being a Muslim, a Muslim spy etc - in sum, they commit libel in order to protest a bill that will benefit 40 Million Americans? It doesn't make sense and it is an awful political strategy (unless there is a purpose).
Socialised medicine the Affordable Healthcare Act is not, when people have to buy an insurance policy. Socialised medicine is when the State forces you to discount, from your wages, a fixed amount to pay for the National Healthcare System whether you use it or not. And if you do not pay, you go to jail or pay a huge fine with interests.
There is no problem, as far as I am concern, with fighting socialism; however, that is not what some Tea Party elements are doing, is it? They are fighting an illusion and bringing down the Republican Party while they're at it.
Let's be honest: even Bill Clinton tried to take away the right to bear arms and I didn't see those right wing radicals calling him socialist in international TV. What upsets them, perhaps, is that, under the Obama Administration, the American electorate is starting to question to the importance of the second amendment? (NB: I agree with the right to bear arms)
Now, some elements of the Tea Party didn't shutdown the US government over the right to bear arms; they did it because they can't repeal "Romneycare/Obamacare" and want to disrupt the US and the world's economy with it. It's irresponsible and ignorant of them: America is not isolated and what it does affects the whole world. We are not in the 18th century any longer.
Oh, the day the Left (what you guys call "liberals") shuts down the US government over Roe Vs Wade being finally repealed (or over any other leftist cause) and calls the POTUS a Muslim/Russian Spy (for instance); they will receive the same treatment in this Neo-Conservative blog.
I remember, the "Occupy Movement"...we had the same bloody thing here (in fact, they insulted me first and then invited me to join their movement afterwards, just because I criticised their motives and timing).
Libel is not legal; and some of the things a few right wing "protesters" say border incitement to hate. You and I must have different views of Conservadorism. I do not support every right winger lunatic just because I am a right winger as well. If what they are doing doesn't make sense and is detrimental to the Conservative Cause, I can't support them under no circumstance.
"What do you do when you have a president who tries to take away your rights? They must protest!"
Protesting is fine, it is a right. Being offensive, libelist and nonsensical is not protesting...it is bad politics, it is stooping to the level of the radical left, and it is unworthy of a proper Conservative.
D, outstanding conversation: thank you ever so much for your input :D. You were missed.
Cheers
Max, Sometimes I don't comment on your blog because I don't understand the issues well enough, or just don't have anything to say. :D
DeleteMy darling D,
DeleteDon't worry about it :D. And thank you for letting me know, I appreciate it :D.
Big hug
I would most certainly agree with Rummuser, Al-Zawahiri may already be winning the battle if we think of the behaviour of those ill-mannered 'conservatives' who have been running the show since Mr Obama took office. Crisis after crisis will eventually erode the American economy and society, and we should be ready for it.
ReplyDeleteWe have had our political crises, here in England, but at least a Tory still knows how to be a Tory, without embarrassing his country.
Hi Bernie :D!
DeleteIndeed, these constant crises may prove detrimental to America's sovereignty and hegemony.
Indeed, my friend, indeed.
Bernard, thank you ever so much for your great input :D.
Cheers
Olá Max,
ReplyDelete1- America doesn't have conservatives anymore. It has rightists who live in the past and refuse to recognise that the world has changed and we live in a globalization.
2- Unfortunately, the world depends on the USA and therefore the USA has no right to keep us shaking all the time just because a few stupid people who are convinced they are conservative want us to.
3- If the USA can't do the job anymore, then China is right: step aside!
4- Europe should've take the opportunity to lead the world but alas: it is to weak to do whatsoever, so who do we have left?
5- Imagine a world where a Communist China or Russia are the Leading Global Powers...Tchau Human Rights!
6- America is presently the world's laughing stock, thanks to the Tea Party....not to Obama!
Tchau, Max.
Olá Celeste :D!
DeleteI disagree: America still has good conservative people. But they are being shadowed by radicals and they need to wake up (and clean the house). You have seen the phenomenon occurring here in Europe, it happens.
Are you becoming a radical yourself, Celeste? lol *nodding* "China is right"? All hell must be breaking loose...
Europe...Europe is too busy allowing Snowden to dictate their foreign policy.
I don't imagine that world actually...can we have Britain back in the wheel, please?
True. But they are working very hard to show the world that Obama is the worst president they have ever had...Carter must be jumping up and down.
Celeste, thank you so much for your input :D. No need to be mad.
Cheers
Bloody radicals, they are everywhere. You know, lass, I look at the American right wing radicals and I nod my head, I really do. They remind me Hitler and his followers, because he also started that way: the Weimar Republic was unstable, it was sending the German Values down the drain, the Nazi Party was the only saviour of the Germans' rights, so forth and so forth. Look at how it all ended. America might be heading the same path.
ReplyDeleteHi Joe :D!
DeleteTea Party Vs Hitler? Didn't the Tea Party depict Obama as Hitler?
I see what you mean, but America is coming out of its economic crisis. So, I am not sure we can compare it to the Weimar Republic?
Joe, my darling, thank you ever so much for your marvellous input :D.
Cheers
Look at the definition of radicalization:
ReplyDelete"The process through which an individual changes from passiveness or activism to become more revolutionary, militant or extremist, especially where there is intent towards, or support for, violence"
Now, compare with what the Tea Party is doing.
Hi Anonymous :D!
DeleteSo you are saying the Tea Party is beyond activism for rights and is actually a radicalised party...
Anonymous, thank you so much for giving us that definition of radicalisation (where did you find it?) and comment :D.
Cheers
Damn, I never thought of that: tea party people paid up to disrupt America? They will never win.
ReplyDeleteAl-Zawahiri and Co want to make us bleed? We'll bleed them first.
Rummuser has point. Americans are doing it to themselves.
DeleteHi Adam :D!
DeleteYeah.
I hope so...
Adam, thanks a million times for your comment, mate :D.
Cheers
Rummy,
DeleteTrue, they don't but they do.
About the link: I still remember when the US ranked the top when it came to education. But it has fallen behind (and it has started a decade or more ago). Good article, thanks.
It's curious what you told Delirious about America being irresponsible. And since Delirious evoked the founding fathers, I read something interesting in Stratfor:
ReplyDelete"[Thomas] Jefferson understood that the United States could not simply ignore the world. The world got a vote."
About Al-Zawahiri's threat:
"There is not an existential threat to the United States today. The major threat is militant Islamism, but as frightening as it is, it cannot destroy the United States. It can kill large numbers of Americans." - Stratfor
Hi Peter :D!
DeleteGood quote, thanks. I wonder when the majority in the GOP (and even Democratic party) will get that.
I agree with Stratfor, but if America keeps allowing certain people to distract everybody from the real issues instead of taking care of them...America is under some sort of existential threat.
Peter, thank you ever so much for your fabulous input :D.
Cheers
Max, just for the record, the US deficit jumped $328 billion as soon as the "debt ceiling" was raised:
ReplyDeletehttp://rt.com/usa/us-debt-record-default-obama-412/
The "debt ceiling" had been overrun for months, so the Federal Reserve had to be falsifying the books to keep the actual amount spent hidden. The reported debt remained constant for this period, but none of the major media outlets reported this fact. If the "debt ceiling" had not been raised, the Federal Reserve would have simply been forced to publicly admit 1) that the "debt ceiling" is irrelevant and 2) that the Federal Reserve isn't independent, but instead is just another leftist fiefdom.
The Tea Party threat had exactly nothing to do with a possibility of default, since the Federal Reserve was already ignoring the "debt ceiling" and there is no "governing legal authority" to force them to abide by the law.
As for the Islamists, it is hard for me to get too worked up over them when we voted to have our own Bolivarian Revolution.
Hey Looney,
DeleteYou read RT? I suppose we need to know what the Russians are saying about all of us, right?
Question: we have been talking about the debt since president Obama got elected (not when he took office, actually the minute he got elected in 2008, when the economic crisis "began"); what have both Reps and Dems been doing since then?
From outside, we see one party busy with deifying their leader (in a awkward way) and another party busy with trashing him (in the most deplorable fashion)...but the real issues are not being dealt with. Doesn't this make Americans wonder?
Oh, cooking the books has been the world's hobby, Looney. Look at China, look at Greece, look at Brazil so forth so forth. Until everything blows on their face.
You mentioned, keeping the actual amount spent hidden: didn't President Bush do the same? He hid the actual amount of expense related to the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Then everything was put out in the open by this administration (at least there was some sense of transparency, cause in some countries the accounts cooking drags on nearly forever). Bottom line: the problem is ancient.
"If the "debt ceiling" had not been raised, the Federal Reserve would have simply been forced to publicly admit 1) that the "debt ceiling" is irrelevant and 2) that the Federal Reserve isn't independent, but instead is just another leftist fiefdom."
Really?
So, the Tea Party doesn't want to face the problem either (when it should invest more energy in tackling this issue)?
Bolivarian Revolution...now you reminded me we should definitely look towards Latin America...
Looney, thank you so so much for your outstanding comment :D.
Cheers
Max,
DeleteOK, I shouldn't have linked to the first random pick on $328 billion! Regarding cooking the books, us Americans aren't used to the idea of this being done by the Federal Reserve.
As for bleeding us, the US only spends 4.4% of GDP on defense, even in these times of bureaucratic overload. Most defense contractors have boarded up buildings and empty parking lots from times past when there was more money. Total government spending is nearly 40% of GDP and on an upward path. The social welfare state and the "education" system are bleeding us to death. If the Taliban wants to bleed us, all they need to do is to send their young to the US illegally and let them collect a life time of benefits for not working.
But I do agree that the Tea Party isn't really addressing the problem(s).
Looney,
Deletelol it's fine. Ah, I see what you mean...so, now it is being a shock?
I never touch the Education system, but social welfare (in its present terms) is bleeding everybody, or almost everybody, to death - ask Britain. So, I sympathise with you on this one.
Ha, but the Taliban and other radical groups are already doing just that to fund their activities. Here's an interesting article that brushes that subject: http://frontpagemag.com/2013/ryan-mauro/jihadist-camps-in-america-a-ticking-time-bomb/?goback=.gde_3976298_member_260910995
No, it is not (and it should).
Well on this occasion on a little optimistic note I would say a very common saying here in India about American economy that, even if an elephant sits down, its size would still be bigger than a dog. So for all the actions undertaken by its deterrents, America still has huge financial, economic and military clout to really thwart it down. Nations go down because of its own people when they start distrusting their own people, but as I see in America its still a long dream.
ReplyDeleteHi Kalyan :D!
DeleteThat is also true.
In America they are still united as a people, it is true - although there are attempts being made to divide the country, so that they can conquer it.
Kalyan, thank you so much for your outstanding comment :D.
Cheers
George Friedman explained the shutdown very well. I was one of those who looked at it and thought "what the hell are the Americans up to now?" - it was crazy! I felt for the furloughed folks, I mean they had rent and mortgages to pay...it must have been hell for them. And all of that for what exactly?
ReplyDeleteUS politicians, right now, are like European politicians: they are trying to distract all of us with petty stuff so that we do not ask them what they are really doing about the real issues (jobs, debt, jobs, deficit, jobs, lowering taxes, jobs, controlling the costs of welfare, jobs, etc)!
Hi Ana :D!
DeleteIt was indeed. That is the question: what did they gain exactly?
I hear you, girl.
Ana, thank you so so much for your fab comment :D.
Cheers
I ask myself the same: where's Wally [Snowden]? And why are countries giving him so much power?
ReplyDeleteThe French are throwing sand at our eyes with their pseudo-outrage, which makes me wonder what are they hiding? And now Germany joined the party accusing President Bush of having started the spying activity on chancellor Merkel...it's a hell of a way to distract the discontent European crowd accusing the EU of incompetence and corruption!
Hi Joseph :D!
DeleteRight?
They are hiding the fact that they were the ones conducting the surveillance on their "friend" and then shared the info with the US?
Germany, on the other hand, is displaying a very odd behaviour that should raise our eyebrows...
Joseph, thank you so much for your comment on the thought of the week :D.
Cheers
