By Stephen Cheney Previous Chapter: Awareness & Time FOCUS We tend to become what we focus on. The mind can narrow into the confining chamber of an obsession. Becoming unaware of All else is not the purpose of focus. Focus is a centring of attention while the peripheral senses, such as in feeling and in vision, retain knowledge of the state of being that surrounds.

Being a Socialite...

…Is a hard knock life. There is a subtlety behind this attribute that has been unveiled to me just recently: men are never called socialites, only women are. If a man is called a socialite is because he is thought to be gay. The word “socialite” is a euphemism for futility, shallowness, smugness, otiosity, spoilage and incongruousness. It could be said that this is unfair; however socialites are the ones to blame for since they often offer that impression. For example, when giving away clothes to the poor many socialites display incongruence (bordering mockery): why give a Dior dress or Gucci shoes to a poor (in what occasion is this person going to wear them)? What does it mean to give Jean Paul Gaultier’s leather trousers to poor gypsies (when gypsy women do not wear trousers)? Whenever socialites do this type of “charity” they tell us that they don’t think. The conversation of socialites is quite limited as well (fooling us into thinking that they lack intelligence). B

The Sea of Ice by Caspar David Friedrich Animals, in the wild, fight to mark territory, to prove strength and ability to protect; in summa, they fight for power. This is Animal Nature. Humans, as part of the animal kingdom, display a similar demeanour; however that which distinguishes them from primordial animals is the intelligence and ability to build (and use) tools to use during those battles. Aristotle said that a man who lives alone is either a god or a beast; meaning that humans were created to live in community. But living in community does not necessarily imply a 100% pacific co-habitation; for this goes against the nature of existence (on earth) and the principle of duality. To know peace we must know war. To know war we must have the notion of peace. These two concepts cannot be learnt from history books; they can only be absorbed through experience (of any sort). A left-leaning friend of mine recently told me there's no longer a Left Wing, in a sense that it no longer upholds the spirit of solidarity, of social concerns, having thus grown into a corrupt, self-serving, entity. To prevent your pushing hand from sliding off his shoulder you may form it into a Palm Heel ‘L’ shape and strike the shoulder – but you must keep pushing (and pulling). By Stephen Cheney Intro Here, we continue with investigations into the workings of the mind. Terrorists/radicals do not appear to suffer from PTSD: Why is that? Ordinary persons may kill, such as in war, but they do not conduct campaigns of torture and death; unless they become radicalized. Becoming radicalized is a mental process, often a brainwashing process. Those who are radicalized, terrorists being a prime example, commit vicious crimes to instil fear, or at least achieve the cowardice of non-opposition to their rule, bending the knees of all to their authority. Experiencing, or even just seeing, such viciousness and the pain of the innocent can shift the minds of less radical humans into a state of PTSD. Of course, history is peppered with numerous examples of armies sweeping the Earth, committing atrocities and genocide.
