A comment on two issues...

Une quéstion Musulmane (a Muslim issue) France has taken a few legislative steps concerning the Muslim customs, which have appalled a few people. For example, Muslim women are not allowed to wear headscarves in state schools; the government is searching for ways to ban the use of burkas (since it is understood that they “reduce dignity” and France “cannot accept to have (...) women who are prisoners behind netting, cut off from all social life, prived of identity,”) and more recently a Muslim lady was prevented from swimming, in a public pool, in a burkini (image above) due to hygiene purposes (the pool prohibits the use of several kinds of swim wear). Some defend that it represents an attack to the Muslim culture; but I’d say it is a defence of the European culture and tradition. Shopping for God

Picture a shopping mall. Inside, there are cute little different stores; each one with appealing products for the market they target. However, there are segments of the market that take pleasure in making shopping decisions that make no sense at all; revealing, thus, a profound sense of confusion and incoherence (all under the flag of freedom of choice). Believing in a Higher Creative Energy. Entering a store called Judaism. Looking around; disliking many things there: so many rituals (take the Shabbat for instance: burning the candles before sunset; singing in Hebrew; breaking the bread; all those blessings; not to mention all the time spent with family “It’s so stressing!”); so much fasting during the year; so much Torah reading; the 613 mitzvot ; the relationship with Eretz Yisrael …it’s too much confusion. Socialism was born due to the unethical development of the industrial capitalism: Extremely harsh work conditions Exploitation of women and children (15-16 hours/day of working time and they were paid 30%-60% less than men). Salary injustice (salaries were paid either in money or in groceries; they were decreased if the volume of business was low and, if the worker got late to work, or damaged any machinery, he/she’d pay a heavy fine). Squalor (industrial workers lived poorly in apartments, provided by their employers, without potable water nor sewage system – subjected, thus, to diseases of all sorts). These harsh conditions led the workers to form a collective conscience that they were victims of the bourgeoisie’s abuse, and that only a radical revolution could establish justice (which could only be established if they’d organise themselves and create institutions). Bending the Protocol

...Yes, I know it is not politically correct to openly criticise the Islamic Fundamentalists (except when they bomb the western world)...however there is a thing or two I’d like to share...yes, sir...I understand...I will take it into consideration...thank you... I often watch the Doha Debates (on BBC World); because I am very much interested in knowing the opinion of the Muslim world on current issues. The show is well set up, the questions brought to the table are good...the TV programme endeavours to reveal how open the Muslim world, in the Middle East, is to debate and willing to critique itself. However, it seems to me that the conversations always converge to the same idea: trash the Western Life-Style. So far so good. I mean we know that we are not perfect, and we welcome criticism. However when the ones criticising us are those who benefit from our system and life-style; we can’t stop but wondering “Why don’t you go and live in the Muslim World, then?” The D

Political Indicators for 2015

Tethys the Spy - NASA 2014 ended with a bang when the UNSC rejected PA's unilateral move (to have a state ex nihilo recognised) – bravo. So, what can be expected this year? Some indicators point to the following:

Google: Impressive!

I salute all those who refuse to be gagged. Governments (be it Right-Wing or Left-Wing) always exert pressure on the press, which is many times viewed as treading on Freedom of Speech. However, one thing is to put pressure, as a form of governmental marketing; another completely different thing is to gag the press, the media and specially the People. How wonderfully fascists, socialists and communists do this; thus perspiring fear from every single pore of their regime… China thrives on censorship. It gags the whole nation, and what is most interesting about it is that it doesn’t even try to hide it (well, at least they are not hypocritical, right?): it gags the press; it gags TV networks; it gags its own people (and it has the nerve to call itself “People’s Republic”) and, it insists on wanting to gag business companies. I salute Google. In fact, I bow to Google. Google did what governments, around the world, don’t do: it shot the dragon in its heart and exposed it.
